Has anyone had any luck with this drug? It's a generic chemo drug. My dad has just started on this in conjuction with the Gemzar.

" Sorry, I haven't heard of it. I hope you get some responses that help. My mother took Gemzar but it was too late for her. I hope the treatment works for your dad. I'll be here if you need me. Debbie "

" Hi HOPE0929,
I have heard of Oxaliplatin, but it is used for other types of cancers not just pancreas. Does your Dad have mets or lymph node involvement? When was he diagnosed? My twin sister had a whipple in Oct.2007. She is on her 3rd month of Gemzar. They said she is a stage2. No lymph node involvement and no mets to other organs. She had the surgery at the University of Chicago. I will pray that your Dad does well with the Gemzar and the other chemo. Has he done well on the Gemzar so far? Keep the faith. I know my sister is very positive....more that me. I get sick to my stomach every time she needs a cat scan. Keep the faith. Hope we can email together once in awhile.Bye
PatRN "

" Hi there
1) Oxaliplatin is a third generation platinum analog--it is similar to but better tolerated than cisplatin and carboplatin.
2) It is used for many cancers: breast, pancreatic, colon, etc
3) It is NOT associated with significant kidney toxicity and causes only mild hematological toxicity
4) In a phase II study, patients with untreated metastatic and locally advanced, unresectable pancreatic cancer were treated with gemcitabine + oxaliplatin and response rate for those patients was better than for the gemcitabine alone
Hope that helps
Dr O. "
