I'm planning on flying later in the year and was wondering if it takes more time to go through security with a pacemaker? I have a card they gave me to tell them the pacemaker I have.

" It has been my experience that they don't even care about your card, but be sure to have it. Make sure to tell the first person you can when you get to security because you will need to be hand searched or "patted down". Some people might get embarrassed, but I have decided not to worry about it. Usually the security officers are nice. They will have a woman do it for a woman and a man for a man. Be careful if you don't have anyone to watch your stuff as it goes through the machines. You will want someone to watch your stuff for you. It might take a little longer or you might get done before the others that are with you. You never know. Let me know if you have any other questions... "

" My husband doesn't have a problem and has hardly ever been asked for his identification card..They are usually really nice and as "sb57" suggested; definately have someone watch your bags..and even at the Government buildings in our area require you to enter thru detectors and they are most gracious to have someone use the "wand"--and now even at the amusement parks you can request the "wand or patt-down" with little or no problem..Just ask!.. " It is my understanding the wand is a magnet. You should not have them use a wand near your pacemaker or icd if it is. I could be wrong about that, but do the pat down to be safe. "
