We got a good report from the Dr. this time. They say that his heart is going down in size. It was 1 1/2 times what it should have been in September when he had pacemaker put in. I am still having trouble keeping him on his diet & making sure that he takes his pills. Dr. even commented on that to him. This pacemaker tells them when he doesn't take a pill & what foods that he is eating that he should not be eating. So heart Dr got a little upset with him because of that.
Do you have any suggetions on how I might get him to eat the right foods?? I know it is hard with him being gone most of the month & I can't remind him to take pills & what he should not eat Posted on 01/06/09, 06:01 pm |

First of all, I am glad for you and your husband that he is impoving. I really can't imagine having the health problems your husband has and not wanting to take my medications and follow the diet. It helps me to put the medications in one of those containers that divide them up into days. That way I am sure to know that I took them for that day. It becomes so automatic that I can't remember sometimes unless I check that I have taken them.
There are some foods that I just say I can't have because of the illness. Things like pizza, canned soup and vegetables, fast food chicken, etc. A nutritionist might help. Insurance will pay for a few visits with a nutritionist for those with heart failure. Most of all, it sounds like he has two good things on his side. First, that pacemaker that tells so much information. That is amazing. Mine does tell fluid retention. Also, he has a person that cares so much about him. What a blessing! Keep up the good work.

I'm also glad you husband is improving. But I wish you luck in trying to get him to eat healthier. I can't get my hubby to do it either. He says I nag him too much, so I back off.
Although he does take his pills faithfully. And he has many health problems, but not heart related. (I'm the one with the pacemaker). I was hoping someone would have a magic answer regarding getting someone else to eat right. It's really a difficult task. Good luck to both of us!
