Worried about aunt!

Hello everyone, I am a newbee & am here in support of my aunt. Last month the doctor found a large lump on her pelvis. Just a note to let everyone know that my aunt had a hysterectomy 35 years ago. At that time, they did not remove her ovaries.

All the pre-tests for ovarion cancer came back negative. Yesterday, they operated & took a thin slice & it came back as cancer. They then removed the entire tumor.

Apparently the mass was taken out along with her right ovary & falopean tube. The left ovary & tube, they assumed was wraped up in the mass, because they couldn't find it. The surgeon stated they will have to wait for the biopsy report, & that they really didn't know where the cancer was coming from? The surgeon also stated they believed they got it all. She had no other symptons of cancer, & felt great, prior to the operation.

My questions to you wonderful people are:

1. Is it abnormal for all pre-op tests to show negative, & still be ovarion cancer?

2. Is there any other type of cancer that you know of that would produce this mass near her pelvis?

Thanks for all your replies.

" Yes to the question of the tests coming back negative. CA125 has a very high incidence of being incorrect. Perhaps she has bowel cancer. Lets hope they did get it all. My recommendation would be to start chemo to catch and destroy any remaining cells. With todays anti-nausea relief chemo is not that bad "

" Thanks for your reply! Bowel cancer? That's a thought, but she was so good about getting physicals, etc. & had a colonoscopy not too long ago, & everything was fine?

Do you think it's possible that when she had her hysterectomy many years ago, that they didn't get it all?

Thanks again for any replies "
