I have an appointment to see my gyno next week and have been doing research on the internet & I probably have myself scared into thinking I may have OC.
I have been feeling "off" for about 1 1/2 years. Last December I had, what appeared to my doc, symptoms of gall bladder problems or pancreatitis. After blood work it was determined that I had neither but my liver enzymes were high...not crazy high, but high. Could this have been a ruptured ovarian cyst? I was still in quite a bit of pain. He game me some Prilosec and told me that if it didn't go away in a few days to come back. After about 5 days the pain subsided. Since then, I have been extremely fatigued. Some days worse than others. I have off and on dull pain in my lower back and sometimes sharp pains that feel like someone is thumping on my kidneys. The pains is happening more frequently and sometimes for days at a time. Lately - in the past 6 months - my stomach has gotten bigger and my pants don't fit in the waist, but still in the butt and legs. Even though I may have gained some weight, my shirts are tight around the middle but fine in the chest area. I seem to have constant stomach aches....like I am hungry, but when I eat I feel sick and even more bloated which makes me look like I did when I was about 6 months pregnant. I was talking to my mom about this and she said that one of my aunts (an aunt by marriage) died from ovarian cancer. She was told for months that she had an ulcer and was treated as such but had most if not all of the symptoms I was complaining to my mom about. My question is what has everyone else experienced? Am I just being paranoid? There is no history of OC or Breast cancer in my immediate family. I will be demanding an ultrasound and bloodwork in the hopes of finding out why I am having so much discomfort and pain. I am tired of being uncomfortable and in pain. Posted on 10/22/09, 01:10 pm |

Hi and welcome to this site! Several of your symtoms are common to ovarian cancer but they all can mean something else. Ovarian cancer is not easily diagnosed. My presenting symptom was abdominal distention. My waist kept increasing and I also thought I looked pregnant. In my case it was caused by something called ascites fluid. It's a symptom found in association with some ovarian cancer but can be from other reasons.
Ask the doctor for a pelvic ultrasound, a CA 125 (this is a tumor marker blood test that does not always indicate cancer activity but can be helpful in diagnosing ovarian cancer), and a CT scan. I was diagnosed very quickly but many women do go through a lot of treatment for other things before their ovarian cancer. Best wishes to you and I hope you get answers soon. Janet
