Hello -

Here is my brief treatment history - I would appreciate any feedback.

I was disagonosed in Jan 2008 and after debulking I have had 3 different chemo regimes:
carboplatin and taxol - 6 months - worked well while I had it, then immediate recurrance
trial - gemcitabine and parp inhibitor - worked quite well while I had it but some unseen progression on treatment - 8 rounds given then spots on liver so stopped this treatment.
I had surgery for the liver but this did not work out because of peritoneal spread and then spead to the brain. Whole brain radiotherapy given - this was a sucess.
Caelyx (doxil) - 2 treatments given - not working so now they are suggesting Taxol on its own. I now also take dexamethasone to keep swelling down in the brain and elsewhere.

Any ideas on Taxol on its own or other similar stories?
Hoping for some positive feedback.

Thank you

Bkb

" I am also stage 4 and am on my 6th round of doxil. It is working well for me. I have heard that often it doesn't show a positive result during the first doses. I haven't heard of having taxol on it's own, but really hope this works for you. I think your doctor is the best to advise on the right treatment in your specific situation, however, if you are unhappy or confused about your treatment then I would urge you to go for a second opinion.. I had to do this early on in my treatment and it well worth doing.. Please let us know how you get on.. Wishing you all the best.. Inka "

" Hi and welcome, I am stage IIIC and in treatment for a recurrence. I was a candidate for Carbo/taxol and it is working well for me; however, I just went to an educational presentation this week about treatments for ovarian cancer. Most of the women present were in active treatment. The presenting doctor was very supportive of clinical trials. He suggested going to the National Cancer Institute web site to look up the trials. The women there were on an assortment of different protocols. I guess I could have gone on a trial that added Avastin to what I'm already doing but I've just had my fourth cycle so it's too late. Good Luck to you and best wishes, Janet "

" Hi!

My mother is presently being treated for ovarian cancer, and there is a lady in her chemo lab, 4th stage, whose cancer has gone to her brain and they're using Avastin and Gemsar she's doing amazingly well. She was very ill when she first arrived, and she slept most of the time. Now she comes in and talks and looks great. Avastin/Gemsar appear to be miracle drugs! There is some blood pressure issue with it, but it can be controlled.

It is my understanding that it is proving to be a miracle drug with late stage ovarian cancer patients!

We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers!

" Thank you for your replies - all this is so overwhelming.

We hope that the taxol works - it starts tomorrow but I do feel tired! Good luck to all of you too.

Best wishes BKB "

" Hi
I was operated on in 6/08 and immediately was put on carboplatin/taxol for my stage 3c ovca. After 18 treatments they found me resistant and my CA levels increased to 322. My next regime was Doxil, however after 2 months my CA levels tripled to 984. Presently I`m on Avastin/Gemzar, which I consider my wonder drugs. I`ve been on these since 2/09 on an every other week basis and they`ve kept my CA levels at 20, which is in the normal range of 0-35. Possibly you can mention the Avastin to your oncologist. It`s not chemo but is an angiogenesis that blocks the bloodflow to the tumors, causing them to disappear. Please keep me posted!. Lots of love,
xxLinda "

" Hi - I am having Gamma Knife Surgery tomorrow for 4 areas on the brain. Things have been difficult recently but at least this is a positive move to actually treat the brain mets.
I hope that this works well with the Taxol working on the other cancer.

Thankyou for your thoughts.

" How are you doing nutritionally? Also, what was your general health before cancer started.

You need to rebuild your immune system, and while it is hard, it can be done. A healthy body will fare better under chemo "
