I just got out of ICU from having a 5cm ovarian cyst laproscopically removed from my left ovary. I am still on bed rest bc everything under the sun went wrong with my surgery. Day 2 of being in ICU the MD came in @ 7pm... after my family left... to tell me that the pathology was abnormal. They are sending the sample to New Orleans for further testing. She also told me that I have a 90% chance of having a second surgery to remove either the ovary or a full histerectomy. So needless to say I am really freaked out mostly bc so much went wrong with this surgery Im now high risk. Im not really sure if there is a question but does anyone have anything?

" Dear Oren's Mom:

Before you worry, wait until you get the pathology report back from New Orleans. My mother was diagnosed last January, and her outlook was not positive, but when she saw an gynecology oncologist, that all changed. Her cancer was Stage I instead of Stage 3(c) as the first doctor diagnosed, and she has done extremely well. After five months of treatment and surgery there was no sign of the cancer, and her CA 125 is within the normal range.

Ovarian cancer is extremely rare, and if you have it at all, you probably have found it early. Even if it is OVCA, there are many advances in its treatments, so you can have great faith and hope. New advances are happening every day.

If it is OVCA, make sure you find the best gynecological oncologist you can! Many women travel to M.D. Anderson or Sloan Kettering for their treatment, which are considered the top cancer centers in the country. My mother's oncologist is in Atlanta, and he has an amazing reputation and success in treating OVCA. If you are unable to travel I'm confident there are wonderful oncologists at Tulane in New Orleans. It has a fine reputation.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Love,
XOX
Susan Wales "

" Hi and Welcome, I, too, had surgical complications and spent 19 days in ICU - 10 of them in a coma. I then spent the next 8 weeks in rehab learning how to walk again and another 9 weeks in home care. This was in November 2007. I was diagnosed with stage IIIC ovarian cancer. You won't really know much until you get a definite pathology report. Susan's advice about finding a gynecological oncologist if it is ovarian cancer is good. I wouldn't let any other kind of doctor touch me. I am also a greater surgical risk but if I felt surgery again is the best option to save my life, I'd do it in a heartbeat. It is very scary not knowing anything but we do cope better once we know what we're facing. I'm wishing you good health and hope you know something soon. Janet "

" Oren's Mom, Look into Medical Assistance for your state. In Maryland you would qualify as you have a child. Hopefully you don't have cancer but that would qualify you also.
