I had my Pap Smear yesterday (7-1-09). And while the doctor was feeling my ovaries, he felt a mass on my right ovary. He told me that it was the size of a lemon. I was SHOCKED! I had no signs, no pain, no discomfort....other than aches I would get with my periods. And that's another reason for the visit to my doctor. I haven't had a period for two months (I can't get pregnant). And that this month will be three months for a missed period for me. He has a pelvic ultrasound scheduled for me. At this point I'm scared, numb, restless....I can't think....I would be so blessed if anyone would be able to give me any support, words of advice........anything. My heart goes out to all of you facing this. God Bless You!

" Everyone in your position is scared Faith....its a perfectly natural reaction.

The mass could be anything chick, a simple cyst and only on one ovary...remember that honey. It doesnt have to be ovarian cancer.

The ultrasound should help diagnosis the problem and is a totally painless procedure. I hope you get that really quickly so you can find out what you are dealing with and then...deal with it!

I know its hard but until you know, worrying yourself sick will not help you. Try and keep occupied, and post here if you are scared.....we will all try and ease your mind.

Here...I have stage 1 Ovarian cancer, had a radical total abdominal hysterectomy on 29th May and started my chemo this week...and Im back at work!!

In the meantime, take care Faith

" I am the daughter of an ovarian cancer cancer patient, and the waiting is the worst part. They have made such great advances in the treatment of the disease, you can be encouraged. And there is possibility it is only a cyst, which are very common. Even at first, when my mother's doctor discovered the mass on her ovary, he told her to begin eating a high protein diet and Kefir, a yogurt type drink. It makes you feel better instantly. And the other thing was prayer. It was amazing to my mother how it has brought us such peace . . a supernatural peace that everything was going to be okay! Our thoughts and prayers are with you. XOX

" I agree with everyone else - the not knowing is the hard part. It is human nature to want assurance that everything is okay. Ovarian cancer is relatively rare and the likelihood that it is something other than cancer is high. Many women have fluid-filled ovarian cysts. Some on this site have had football-sized tumors that were still stage I disease (the most curable). In any case, while I know how easy it is to jump to the worst possible conclusions, it's not productive to worry yourself about things you do not yet know will come to pass. On the other hand, if it is indeed cancer, then it's been found early - before symptoms. Mine was discovered late (stage IIIC) - after the onset of symptoms in 11/2007. This is a tough cancer but there are many treatments. It sounds as though your doctor is taking the action necessary to find a diagnosis. Ask your doctor about having a CA125 blood test. This test is not diagnostic but can be helpful.

We're hoping that it's not cancer. Do keep us posted. Thank you for the blessings and best wishes to you, Janet "
