I'm new to this group but felt that I needed to find some support! My mom is 58 and was diagnosed with stage 3c ovarian cancer in Oct. 2008. She's always been my best friend so it felt like someone punched me in the stomach when we got the diagnosis. It took me two weeks to be able to put makeup on for work without crying it off in the process. My dad did everything for my mom...then on Nov. 26, 2008 (my birthday and the day before Thanksgiving), my dad left to run errands, ran off the road and had a heart attack. We think he died instantly...or hope he did. Needless to say, my sisters, mom and I have struggled between grief, worry, anxiety, etc. I've gained 10 lbs. from depression (I'm a very happy person-- NEVER suffered from depression as I count my blessings every day!). I feel broken. My mom's first oncologist told her surgery was out of the question but a surgeon suggested otherwise, so we are going to Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem Tuesday, June 30 to have surgery. Please pray for my mom... chemo hasn't worked and she's in terrible pain. She can't eat much b/c she's so swollen and she's scared. We have a very strong faith but the anxiety still gets to us. Thank you all... I appreciate it more than you know!

Your mother's surgery sounds similar to mine but more extensive - I didn't have a colon resection just a wedge removed. Plus, I still have a gallbladder - but no spleen either. Recovery can be rough but it's great to have so much cancer removed and certainly wonderful that this kind of surgery is available to us. I'll continue to keep your family in my prayers. Many hugs, Janet

Thank you all again for your replies! My mom was able to come home Tuesday... 7 days after surgery. She is weak but doing very well.
Janet - how long has it been since you had surgery? We were so relieved that she didn't require a colostomy. She was so worried about that as my grandmother had one for years and it was not pleasant. I hope you all are having a great week. I sent an update email to friends today, ones that I had asked to pray, and told them that if they'd ever doubted that God hears their prayers or thought they couldn't generate a miracle with their prayers that I'm here to tell you... He does and you did! Thanks for all the prayers here, too!
