I have only just joined this site, less than a month ago. I joined because my sister had just been diagnosed with stage 4 Ovarian cancer but with mets nearly everywhere. We had no idea she that she was even that sick or that cancer was even a possibility.
Last week she suffered a massive stroke and was admitted to the hospital. 3 days later she had another one, slightly smaller but it took the last of her speech and independance. 2 days ago on Wednesday morning the decision was made to put her into an induced coma. Surrounded by loved ones my sister passed away in the early hours of Thursday morning. We only knew she had cancer for less than 5 weeks but that time we had was so very precious to us all. My sister, Erin (27) was so incredibly strong and determined to make the most of the time she had left. I was so very proud of her. To all either fighting this disease or fighting alongside a loved one stay strong. Thank you Posted on 06/18/09, 11:06 pm |

Reading about your sister's ordeal made me cry. My prayers and best wishes are with you and your family. You may not be thinking this way at this time but be sure you learn from the doctors exactly what type of ovarian cancer she had. Some of these cancers have a genetic component and other women in the family may be more at risk than the general population. I have four daughters around your sister's age and I want them to be proactive about this horrible disease. My heart goes out to you and to your mother. I would gladly lose my life than to ever lose a child. Much love, Janet

thank you for posting your story and sorrow; my heart goes out to you and your family. I admire both you and your sister, Erin. You shared in her battle, and now carry her message to all of us here. Bless you. Take Care of yourself.

My thoughts and prayers are certainly with you. Cancer brings a roller coaster of emotions, most of them very difficult. I don't know your faith but if I may say... God has a way of working that we can't even begin to fathom. In the recent sudden loss of my dad, I had to believe that God was sparing him pain and suffering by taking him quickly. So maybe the same with your sister... My mom is battling cancer and I've thought the same... to encourage others and pray for the families as the battle can be overwhelming for us as well. Thank you for sharing and I wish you peace, strength and healing. Love - rharris
