Hair Loss

My hair started to fall out 2 days ago. It is really falling fast.

Does anyone know how long it takes to get totally bald, and how soon after chemo it starts coming back.

this seems the hardest part! Vanity I guess.

Any women with comments?

" thanks. I'm kind of fascinated by the process now, what a new life experience. And with the knowledge that it will come back so soon--great!

Did yours change color or texture when it grew back? "

" My mum starts chemo in a week and to be honest I hadn't really given the hair loss much thought. I guess the fact she would finally be getting treatment took the emphasis away. Now I'm worried because mum has always taken so much pride in her lovely hair. She will be having chemo once a week, will her hair fall out really soon after? Does it depend on the type of chemo? None of the doctors or nurses I've had contact with seem to mention any of this stuff, but it's really important as it will have a major impact on how mum feels.
Does anyone have any words of wisdom on how I can try to help her through this? It just seems like the last thing she deserves on top of everything else she has been through lately. xxx "

" Tracinda,
The type of chemo definately makes a difference. I've been on four different types and two made my hair all fall out and two did not. Do you know the name of you mom's treatment drug/s?

" I know nurses/doctors seem busy all the time..but they would love to answer your questions. If it would help you to help your mother, then ask away. Helps sometimes to write down any questions before a visit.
I'm about to start chemo and am looking into wigs etc... I'm also very vain about my hair and know I will be losing it this time, so I'm getting all the information I can now to help me deal with it. xxxxxx "
