How to find strength

I am 51 and my gyno discovered a large "cyst" behind my uterus on ultrasound. A gyno/oncologist felt it upon exam and said I have fluid, "ascites" and that surgery is needed ( scheduled Aug. 5) .

I have begun feeling some symptoms only 3-4 days ago, such as feeling full.

I would like to hear from anyone that has gone through this. It is overwhelming to say the least.

" I understand how overwhelmed you feel. I went to my Rheumatologist thinking my medications were giving me a stomach ulcer. I was told I had multiple ovarian cysts and that I had to have surgery, which I did on 29th May.

I too was feeling full, due to Ascites, and only for a few days. It may JUST be the cyst causing this...whatever it is, you are having the needed surgery quickly and then you can take it from there.

Have they said what surgery you are having?

Hugs

" We can all well understand how overwhelming this is for you. You are not alone in this and you will get through it.. Unfortunately, these things happen so quickly, that we don't always have time to catch our breath.. Be reassured that everything is being done as it should be for you. The op will remove the 'problem' and after tests, you will know exactly what it is.

Ovarian cancer is extremely rare and the huge majority of these things turn out to be benign conditions that are more easily dealt with. It's only natural to ponder the worst when facing this sort of thing, but the odds are stacked in your favour against cancer..

We just have to take these things one step at a time.. the 5th will soon be here and the best you can do to help yourself right now is to relax and take extra special care of yourself.. try to distract yourself from worrying too much, with better things, that isn't easy, but worth the effort. You will find all the questions and get all the answers you want in time. We have all been through this and we're here with you.

Wishing you all the best. Inka "

" I had to wait for 10 days before my surgery but all the indicators - CA 125, symptoms, massive ascites, CT scan - were positive for ovarian cancer. Ovca is not definitively diagnosed until surgery and biopsies confirm it. In my case, multiple masses were apparent on the CT scan and I was eventually diagnosed with stage IIIC disease. It sounds as though your findings are not quite so extensive and, as Inka says, ovarian cancer is rare so it could be something other than cancer (we certainly hope so). Fluid filled cysts that are not cancerous are common.

What sustained me during those 10 days was the quotation "there is always hope." This statement continues to be my mantra 20 months later. Truly, once you know what you are dealing with, you will relax and deal with whatever it is. It is overwhelming at times but somehow we manage to summon the strength to deal with whatever confronts us. Best wishes, Janet "
