Did anybody get facial hair growth after chemo? How did you get rid of it?

Lots of plucking... Yuk... with a magnifying mirror and a good pair of glasses.. and occasionally.. facial hair removal cream.. I spend a lot more time than I ever used to on trying to look half reasonable.. these days.. xxxxxx

I got plenty. Kind of a soft down that covered my cheeks. I couldn't really see it unless I was standing with the light behind me. I freaked when I first saw it. I used a battery powered Conair hair remover to get rid of it. Yes it eventually grew back but not nearly as much as the first time. It has something to do with the chemo drugs and the fact that I am no longer producing estrogen. This is what I think it is anyway.

I got some hair removal cream from my pharmacy. It was in the area of leg hair removal, but is made specifically for face. I leave it on for about 8 minutes and then wipe it off with a wet wash cloth. I had downy hair on my cheeks, jaws and below the ear area.

I have always had a little facial hair, esp. since memopause, but I have noticed a lot more since my hair started growing back since chemo.

lol, I'm afraid it is true. The good news for me is that it seems my eyebrows are growing in thicker. They have thinned thru the years and having hypothyroidism. I am hoping the same for my eyelashes as well. My hair is growing in almost totally white. I will post a picture as soon as it grows in enough to see. You all could give me your opions if I should leave it.

Ah, facial hair growth . . . chemo is just the gift the keeps on giving, isn't it? Guess I won't be able to pull those stray hairs out with tweezers anymore - sounds like more aggressive hair-removal tactics will be necessary :-(
Anita, that's great that your eyebrows and lashes are coming in thicker - gotta have a silver lining somewhere, huh? xxx LuEllen

I like the joke about the silver lining... very funny..when it's on your head.. I have heard that the colour comes back after a time as the pigment bits of us take longer to recover... has anyone else heard of that.? xxx

Silver lining . . . LOL, I'm an unintentional comedian! I too have heard that it takes awhile for the hair pigment to kick in. Yesterday, I saw a young woman come into the chemo area to say hi to the nurses. She was quite a bit younger than me (I'd guess early 30's at the latest) and her hair was about 1" or so all over and a grayish color. Unless she naturally had grayed early, I'd guess her true / new hair color will be something else as it continues to grow in - I hope so! She was quite young and very attractive so I hope she isn't already going gray! LuEllen

Everything came back twofold! I almost had a beard at first. I was so embarrased I shaved it, but the good news was that after that it went back to the normal stuff. My eyebrows went crazy too, so I got them waxed, and everything I had waxed has not come back at all. Weird huh?
