" Hi, I just had a pericaridal cyst removed on July 15th. It was the size of a baseball. What are your symptoms? I was having trouble swallowing and severe pain underneath my breastbone. Good luck. Make sure you go to a top notch cardiothoracic surgereon. "

" Well, the pain underneath my breastbone is gone. The swallowing problem still comes up now and again. It's only been 8 weeks since surgery. So it still could be from inflammation. Unfortunately they had to do a sternotomy (cut me open down the middle of my chest) instead of going in underneath my left arm on my side, so my recovery has been allot slower than anticipated.

I never went to a cardiologist. My primary care physician who is also a gastroenterologist thought at first it was a problem with my esophagus, etc. So he did all the tests. There was a problem all right I had this thing pushing on my espohagus and trachea. So he sent me straight to the cardiothoracic surgeon.

Good luck and let me know what happens. "

" Hi Kelly,

Well, first let me tell you I wish I had gotten a second opinion, because I'm still having pain after surgery, from the surgery itself and I still have the feeling of something being stuck in my throat. Not as much but it comes every now and again.

My cyst was the size of a baseball and was pushing into my esophagus and trachea. If you saw my ct-scans you could see it actually pushing everythingout of the way. I would go see a cardiothoracic surgeon if I were you.

Good luck. "

" Kellie, I don't know what to tell you. Pericardial cysts are non-cancerous. They are just cysts. So then it must not be a pericardial cyst you have. Good luck with the oncologist and let me know what happens. "
