Dealing with recovery of surgergy

I had open heart surgery in Oct. of 2007 to repair my aortic valve. I am going through some much doubt of if I am going to rebreak/hurt my breast bone, depression...is it okay to feel down that I cant just get up and go like I use to....How have others recovered and did they share in some of what I am feeling?

well i havent had open heart surgery but ive had 2 ablations bout to have a 3rd here soon.. im only 16 and i cant do things that normal 16 year olds can. its hard for me to be active sometimes i use to lift weights everyday i was a big kid and now i cant do it anymore cause my heart has been getting so bad...i get depressed often about things and sometimes i wonder if i would be better off dead..but then i sit there and think about my family and friends and how it would hurt them and how much they care and it kind of helps me out..i also have friends that are very supportive and try to do things that i can do and dont push me to the limit....just think about the good things and good people that are around to support you try to ignore the bad..hangout with your friends go get a bite to eat even if its mcdonalds just to take your mind off of things....i do understand where your coming from..just take it easy and cheer up!

I can't figure out how to reply to you(sean6789)so I will just add it here hope you get it...thanks for the advice you reminded me to think of the important people in my life like my family and friends and ya I get depressed to and it helps to get out and do things...I have always had a heart mumer so I was always restricted from doing real physical activties like sports which most of my friends were involved with so I can relate...if you every need to talk give me a shout and thank you!

I have had 2 Cardiac Ablations in the last 9 months!!! First one was for Atrial Flutter and SVT. Both were ablated successfully. However, Before that ablation and all the way up to this one I have had long bouts of PVC's Bi-Geminy and Tri-Geminy etc. I was throwing lots of PVC's this time when I taken into the ER. I was awake for the first part of the procedure. I was then put to sleep and Intubated. He worker on me for 8 hours. He was dissappointed when we left the ER he did many little ablations and was only 95% sure he got it. Well, I am 4 days Post OP and NO PVC's or Arythmias of any kind. This is AWESOME!!!! I have not felt this good for years!!!! I hope it lasts!!!!! The Ablations Do work. I am living proof!!!!
