IN late July 2007, my left eye started really hurtingm the first few days it was just painful, the 3rd day something really strange started happening, That eye will not move correctly or the same as teh right. It only seems to affect me if I try to look up, the right eye moves just fine, while the left doesn't move much or at all. Had the same issue in late may 2008, was fine until Feb 2009, again in mid April 2009, and now again mid may 2009.
Family dr sent me to an opthomologist but by teh time my appt time came the issue had cleared up. Same thing has happened every time. We are short om drs here in my neck of teh woods so getting appointments can take 6 months or more, by teh time my appts come up the issue has resloved and dr can find no reason for what I describe. He at first thought it was thyroid orbitopathy, but since I do not have the bug eyes, and my thyroid and oribts are normal, that diagnosis doesn't fit. I have been doing some research on my own and have figured out that it's my 3rd cranial nerve thats affected but thats about all I know. I can't seem to find a pattern in its onset, nor the length of time it lasts, it sees to be scattered but onsets are getting more and more frequent. I am really scared its something awful and I won't get to see my 6 year old grow up. Dr says its unlikley but I'm still scared. I do have a pic where you can see the eye is paralyzed or stuck, ot's very weird, very painful and very much of an anooyance. B/c that left eye is messed up it is causing issues in my nect from craning my neck so I can look at someone properly. I cannot focus if a person is directly in front of me unless they are at my eye leval. Has anyone ever had this problem? if so what was done to fix it? what was the diagnosis? When it was fixed (if it was) has it ever returned? Anyway here is the pic, Posted on 05/23/09, 10:05 pm |

Hi there, I couldnt see your picture, but it reminds me of when my dr's eyes started to go awry, she saw a number of different eye drs, since she was dignosed with thyroid disease anyway, and they ruled out the thyroid for a time, then a few months later she started having really strange weak spells, uncoordinated and falling down... her endocranologist had some tests ordered and it was Myasthenia Gravis... it will sometimes only present Occular, and or combined General where the weakness is thru the whole body. Thankfully it is in control with meds for now.. That is one of the main symptomes of MG.. is when the eye muscles loose strength and they over compensate so the directions over shoot.. it was like looking at Marty Feldmon for her since she had a bit of bug eye as well. Marty Feldmon had both Graves and MG.. same as my daughter. But that may be something you may want to look into, and ask your Dr to run a test.. hopefully you dont have to pay for it, cause it is expensive here in BC, If you are near a major city where the tests are done it may be different, our populace is not as high as most US cities.Check out Images for Myasthenia Gravis on Google.. there should be enough for you to compare.
