Is this Blepharitis or something else?

For the last several months, I have been struggling with recurring eye problems that keep coming and going. One eye in particular becomes very red and emits a slight discharge, yellow in color, crusting over at night, and I can feel fluid behind the eye in the eye socket area. I have been to the doctor several times for this but he is just a primary care physician and not an eye specialist. After 3 different prescriptions he gave me that did not work, he sent me to an optometrist who did an exam, dilating my eyes, and determining that I do not have glaucoma. The optometrist merely gave me Zaditor which is an over-the-counter medication primarily for allergies, but this does not feel or look like an allergy as there is no itching.

In my last meeting with my primary care physician, I asked for a referral to the opthomologist but he refused, and is sending me back to the optometrist. I have to work with the Veterans Administration for my health care so I don't always have a choice unless I pay out of pocket which can be cost prohibitive on a limited budget.

The eye problem is exacerbated by my having to work on computer for several hours each day. I have protective computer glasses but they are only limited help.

Any suggestions as to what this might be or what I should do?

" I was recently diagnosed with severe dry eye, and get a crusty feel along my lashes.. so I looked into Blepharitis.. I would suggest that you talk to a pharmacyst... they will know more than your other drs about what treatments are used because they are the ones who specialize in the drug field... most of our treatments unless are blatently obvious are trial and error.. I have developed a good relationship with my pharmacy techs and they give me on the spot advice. There are special wipes for blepharitis.. and drops, so they will know if or what you should use while you play games with your drs.. on that note. I would try a different dr if you have that option.. we thankfully have good medical in BC. and if there is a problem our GP will refer to a specialist since you dont need referals to see an optometrist. I hope your condition clears up soon. "
