Tubes and drainage problems

I'm 24 years old and I've had this problem since I was a child. Fluid builds up in my left Eustachian tube and never drains. The problem wasn't addressed until I was 21 or so when I got my first tube. Since then I've had 4 or 5. It just keeps happening, and I don't know what to do. My ENT has told me that nothing more can be done. He's had me on prescription allergy meds and nasal sprays, but neither work. My left ear won't pop - wouldn't even happen when he used a device to blow air in to my nose.
I'm tired of getting tubes. It's expensive and painful. I'm in the process of searching for a new ENT for a second opinion. The pressure is unbearable at times, and obviously I have a problem hearing. It's minor, I suppose...but it's so frustrating. Is there anyone else who experiences this? Or who has had success with a treatment other than tubes? Posted on 07/27/08, 01:07 am |

I suffered from chronic ear infections as a child, through high school. My problem was that mucus was building up in my Eustachian tubes thanks to food allergies. Allergies are a rather common cause of this problem. Also, my Eustachian tubes took a very long time to become properly angled, so the fluid couldn't drain. Tubes weren't helpful for me because they didn't fix my allergy problem.
Several people I know have had a lot of success with alternative and eastern medicine including chiropractic therapy (believe it or not), but for me, it was figuring out the cause. It's almost always a symptom of something else. Sorry I can't be of much help, but good luck!
