So I was born with cleft lip and palate. I am now 25 and have had a lot of surgeries over the years. I have really bad sinus problems and my ears just hurt so much!!!! Its not like it used to be! They used to give me the pink drink (amoxocillin) when I was little. Now they gave me 'Cephalexin 500 mg' which is a antibiotic. Anybody ever taken that that you know of? And does it tend to make you sick?
They also gave me Lortab Elixir 2.5 mg. And I HATE meds like this!!!! Well I have a fear of meds! Not ibuprofin or vitamin C. Pretty much everything else tho. Well not so much the amoxocillin either. I'm used to it. I KNOW what it does and that I'm not allergic. But they wont give me that. Anyway I am trying 1000 of Vitamin C before I take the other meds. My body is so sensitive to meds and even vitamins, it should work I'm hopeing!!!!!!!! I also got some yougurt and healthy juice w/no sugar added, and some chicken noodle soup and broth. Nothing but good stuff going in me!!! And no cigarettes around me!!!! This is all sinus problems and I dont need that!!! Anyway, so what do you guys do when this ear pain bothers you?? If you can provide me any stories on the meds they prescribed me, that would be great too!!!!! Thank you!! Nikki Posted on 11/29/10, 09:46 am |

I have suffered from allergies (environmental, food and meds) for most of my life, the pain (and meds) you describe are simlilar.. You may want to consider allergy testing to see if there is something else going on in addition to the issues you already know about. I didnt like the cephalexin it made my stomach upset and gave me a bad taste in my mouth. If you so have a allergy that is contributing to your discomfort you need a steroid to fight the inflimation. I have battled ER dr's who just dont get it, dont be afraid to stand up for your self if you dont think they are listening to you...I remind myself that they are just "practicing medacine" :) even they dont claim that they know what thier doing :)

I can relate to the chronic ear problems and the sensitivity and the way the sinuses are tied into it all. I also disdain the petro-pharmacuetical industry and want nothing to do with it in my body.
I've tried a host of remedies, and the best two - sorry to be cliche - are Yoga and meditation. In yoga, headstands and shoulder stands do wonders for temporary relief. In the long run supposedly it makes the ear canals more elastic, and clears the sinuses more. As per meditation, especially this type: http://www.dhamma.org/ you'll learn to observe the sensation of pain without reacting to it, and you'll learn that 90% of the pain is a mental amplification of a much smaller nuclei of discomfort. So, though I still suffer from chronic ear burning and pain, when I meditate regularly I am able to consistently observe that what I otherwise perceive to be a gross ear pain is in fact a much smaller epicenter of discomfort - and even that dissolves sometimes. No mumbo-jumbo, just objective observation. It takes work though.
