Introducing Myself : Newly Diagnosed

Hello all:
I've been on DailyStrength for a few years now, but just joined the Osteoporosis group after being diagnosed a couple of weeks ago. My diagnosis is a little unusual due to its origin. I have Addison's disease and have to take steroids (specifically Hydrocortisone and Florinef). As a result of having been on these steroids for ten years now, my endocrinologist ordered a bone density check. The results came back as severe Osteoporosis. Also as uncommon is that I'm a 33-year-old male. Apparently Osteoporosis is not seen much in males? So my endocrinologist has given me some material to read. I'm facing the option of around seven different medications to choose from, so any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Posted on 10/03/09, 01:10 pm |

Sorry that you hve just been diagnosed.
I would advise you to get as much info as possible. Join the http://www.inspire.com/groups/nati... and https://www.nos.org.uk/ both sites have forums and you will get all the info and advice you need. You will see that there are alot of males with the condition. I am trying to do things as natural as possible, I tried bisphosphonates but had too many side effects, and after looking into all the other treatments, and due to the fact that I have other medical issues I decided to try and help myself. Good Luck.

Thank you very much for the info. Unfortunately I highly doubt that I can go the 'natural' route for this. I have Addison's disease and its complications, one of which is Osteoporosis due to long-term steroid use. 'Natural' remedies and such are simply not strong enough to be effective at all. I've been on pretty heavy-duty medications for a decade now. But, I'm glad that I have several options for treatment of the Osteoporosis. Again, thank you very much. I know I'm not alone, but when someone replies to a post, it makes it quite comforting. :)
