Anyone in pain?

I recently had several tests done for a routine physical. All was ok, & the only test left to have done is the colonoscopy this Friday. However, I was diagnosed with osteopenia in my hips (sp)and have been taking calcium & vitamin D tablets. I am awakened every night now with pain in my lower back, and both hips. Does this happen to anyone? It takes be forever to get back to sleep & its driving me crazy. When I talked to the nurse, she said the pain could be caused by the osteopenia in my hips.
Thanks for any opinions.

" I've had osteoporosis now for 5 to 6 years. It is my understanding that the condition itself causes no pain whatsoever and my doctor stated that also. I had some pain in my wrists at one time and wondered if the osteoporosis was at fault. If you break a bone due to the osteoporosis then of course you would feel a little pain. For me, the more time that goes by, the less I worry about it. I even had a very bad fall on the ice last fall and didn't break anything. I make sure to take my calcium and vitamin d everyday and exercise as much as I can and I figure after that, it's out of my hands. "

" I, too have had Osteoporosis for about 10 years. I was given Fosamax as a clinical study which did seem to work according to further bone scan, however, I stopped taking it because I felt it was affecting my stomach. I went back to GP because I was getting intermittent pains in different parts of my body and worried that it might be the Osteoporosis. My GP too stated that the disease itself is painless (although I'm not totally convinced). I started back on the Fosamax but I must admit I still get pains. I wake up during the night 'stuck'! My lower back seems to get stuck and it is very painful to try and move out of the position. I also get a lot of aching in my buttocks and hips. I'm convinced this has something to do with the Osteoporosis but GP says it's not. So....I'm afraid I can't answer your question because I'm in as much the dark about it as you - LOL "

" Its driving me crazy. The last time I talked with my doctor's nurse, she told me the pain in my hips "probably was because of the osteopenia". But I also have pain in my lower back too. Maybe I will do some check online & see if I can find something out. I have been trying some calcium w/vitamin D and I don't see any difference. I heard somewhere that this might all have something to do with menopause, which I've been going through for years now. Never had this kind of pain in my body though until now. "

" I was diagnosed with osteo when I was 32...I'm 61 now. I've lost 5" in height, have 4 compression fractures in my back (which really hurt from the spasms), I'm in a great deal of pain right now from the fractures.

Most of the time, there is no pain unless my back starts up. I also have RA and OA which makes it twice as tough.

" I understood that you didnt get pain unless you broke something, thats why its called the 'silent killer' My Mum only had pain when she broke something, thats how she found out she had it.I get alot of back ache but I dont know whether its from the osteoporosis or not!! "

" I am newly diagnosed but was not surprised at the diagnosis as I have had low back and hip pain for sometime now. The nurse I spoke with after diagnosis was surprised that I knew I had it due to the pain, as medical drs. will say there are no symptoms, but she indeed believes that there are. I believe it as well given the low back, wrist and hip pain I have suffered for several years now. "

" Even before I moved from osteopenia to osteoporosis I had a sciatica flare up in right hip and down right leg like really hot flashes pain.
Went to PT did much stretching and.... it disappeared! Don't know if this will help you. Also, my mom lives with me, is age 83, and has hip problems, so now she has a pillowtop mattress with a foam egg crate pad and it helps.
xooxoox deeeee "

" I am recently diagnosed with Osteoporosis and have been getting lower back and hip pain for quite some time. My doctors all say you don't get pain with Osteo. unless there are fractures but have just seen my physiotherapist and she says my pain may be from the Osteo. "

" I was diagnosed about 14? years ago. Now I have compression fractures in the thoracic area and it's very painful. Doctors will tell you it's not a painful condition until there are fractures, but I wonder about that. "
