Osteoporosis Support Group

When I was first diagnosed about 12 years ago I was put on Fosomax but it had adverse affects on my GI so I was put on an infusion as part of an experiment. Firstly the infusions were done quarterly and then yearly. I moved house and the journeys to the hospital where the infusions were done was too far away. Recently I have been concerned that it's 2 years since I had the last infusion, so I asked my GP who said he had heard just that day of a more local clinic where the infusions are being done. Great!

PS I am quite concerned about the reported necrosis of the jaw.

Fleurina, I too was very concerned about this. I have been assured by three physicians for whom I have high regard that the incidence of osteonecrosis with IV Reclast given for osteoporosis is very small, and that the media has blown this out of proportion. They also stressed a hip fracture in an older person can be fatal. As a retired nurse, I know about hip fractures in the elderly. This is my decision; however, everyone must pursue their level of comfort with treatment options.
