" I have 2 doses of calcium,I was told not to take them at once because the body cant absorb too much at one go!Its a waste of time because you just get rid of the excess!!
I am diabetic and I inject 5 times a day so it wouldnt bother me, think I will look into forteo,Im not taking anything at the moment. "

If you have been taking it for a long time has it helped your bone ? any side effects? I am just researching information before I take any new meds. I heard that the cost is Outrageous! (900 dollars for I dont now how long 3months maybe? May I ask how you can afford it and has it improved your bone structure? always facing.... " I found this info, dont know how true it is.

Forteo

Generic Name: teriparatide
Dosage Form: Injection

Warning

In male and female rats, teriparatide caused an increase in the incidence of osteosarcoma (a malignant bone tumor) that was dependent on dose and treatment duration. The effect was observed at systemic exposures to teriparatide ranging from 3 to 60 times the exposure in humans given a 20–mcg dose. Because of the uncertain relevance of the rat osteosarcoma finding to humans, teriparatide should be prescribed only to patients for whom the potential benefits are considered to outweigh the potential risk.

Dont forget that the rats were given a much higher dose than they would give to us! "

" wel idk i havent been on it long but i figured EVERYTHING gives possible chances of a side effect or another condition. this is better than being on fosamax because fosamax wasnt doing its job. this is supposed to do what that doesnt do. build/grow bones back.

i trust my dr and if he put me on this, knowing what it can do, then i am willing to try it. fosamax has just as many other things it causes "

" I was on Forteo for about 13 months but stopped because I was having nose bleeds that seemed to be related, although there's nothing listed in side effects about nose bleeds.

We also found very little change in my bone density scan, so it didn't seem to have much effect for me. Maybe if I'd taken it longer. The shots are easy once you get used to them. Keeping the stuff refrigerated when you're traveling is a pain, but doable. My understanding is that the incidence of bone cancer is quite rare and the tests were on rats. I don't think Forteo's been around long enough to know the long-term effect on humans.

Good luck! "
