How old (or young) at diagnosis?

Hello everyone, I was just wondering how old everyone else was at the time of diagnosis. I was diagnosed with Osteo in my hips and wrists (as well as Osteopenia everywhere else) at the age of 28. I'm going on 32 now, and haven't had a bone scan since diagnosis. I will have to ask my pain specialist if he can schedule me for one soon, but as I understand it, a patient should get a scan on the same machine every time to have consistently accurate results. My last (and first) scan was done when I lived in Albuquerque, and now I'm in Vegas, and may move to Reno soon. I have also been told that since I am of child-bearing age and plan to have children I cannot take any of the Rx things like Boniva or Fosamax. So I take calcium and vitamin D. What are other young women with Osteo taking?

I was diagnosed 5 years ago, and now I am 37. I take calcium, and vitamin D, and once a month actonel. I have already had a hysterectomy so childbearing was not an issue for me.

I was dx at 53. I tried to get doctors to run tests sooner but refused. I was high risk being thin and family history. I quit taken generic form of Fosamax . I am trying bio-identical progesterone cream. I am in my second month on it. I take calcium and vitamin D along with healthy diet. I have extensive osteo (along with other health problems) and I hope my bone scan show better numbers.

I was diagnosed just this year at 31. I have Osteoporosis in my spine and Osteopenia in my hips and legs.
All my dr said to do was additional weight bearing exercise and she put me on prenatal vitimans. I had been taking viactive for a while, but am now taking a Cal, Mag, D combination in pill form that worked for a coworker. I used to run alot. Have started running again. Been trying to cut out carbonated beverages, but I am addicted to caffeine. I was not aware that Ciliac disease could make Osteo worse. But since it interfears with absorption I guess it makes sense. I have been cutting back on my gluten intake but will have to do more.

rfuller21,
If you have celiac Disease, you must remove ALL glutens from your diet or it will ravage your entire body including the nerves in your body. Animal

Wow, I felt bad when I was diagnosed with osteoporosis at 43, (I'm 46 now) I really feel bad for you younger women who have it. I went into early menopause at 37 and I did not take HRT because I'm at high risk for breast cancer.
I've been taking Actonel since my diagnosis. I found out a couple of weeks ago during my routine gyne visit that I have shrunk an inch. I had a Dexa scan during that visit and it showed that my bone density has got a little worse. I'm going back for a repeat Dexa scan next week and possibly my doc will add to or change my meds. Take care, Jen

I was diagnosed with osteoporosis when I was 21 after having been prescribed prednisone for my myasthenia gravis. I had bone density scans almost every year, the last one showed it had been downgraded to ostopenia. I had been on fosamax when first diagnosed but after developing kidney stones I was taken off of it. I am currently taking another medication which I cant remember what its called and have always been told to take my calcium and vitamin D. Never been told how that would affect my childbearing, I think I should ask.
