hi, new here. Recently my DR. has said I need to start ostero.meds. I tried fosomax. that was terrible for me. Severe bone pain. Now he suggests I try either actenol, or boniva. Has anyone tried these? Also Don't wish to be a ginnie pig for the pharmacutical companies.. Just so afraid of the side effects as I seem to be drug sensitive. Boniva is fairly new. Can someone also tell me why some methods are varied? why injections over the standard pill form? thanks in advance....

" All I can talk about is Boniva. My mother takes it and it takes her out for several days with bone/muscle pain. It also gives her heartburn, I'm sure, as did Fosamax for me. Dr. Christine Northrup has a good article on osteop. on her website. "

" Lately, there has been alot of controversy on these drugs for osteoporosis. I've read recently that these drugs actually TAKE AWAY bone instead of helping to ADD bone!!! Also, I know for a FACT that if you have to have dental work, you CANNOT be on any of these drugs as you could end up with what is called "Dead Jaw" ~ where the jaw itself deteriorates. The bone from the jaw just "wastes away."

I stopped taking these drugs even tho I have a nasty case of osteoporosis. You're damned if you do and damned if you don't!! "

" Hi there - I'm as confused as you - LOL. I currently take Fosamax (Alendronic Acid 70mg 1 tablet once a week) but I get all these weird and wonderful aches and pains - sometimes from my muscles and sometimes in my bones. I told my GP about it and asked if it was the Osteoporosis that was causing this pain but he said "No - that is why it is called the silent killer". So, if it's not the disease causing the pain, could it be the medication?

I just don't feel right at the moment - my stomach feels horrible - heavy, indigestion with slight nausea, wind, cramps and I'm getting these intermittent pains....I just don't know what is causing it all. Any advice? "
