Hey all,
First i am new to this forum but i normally lurk in the cp and endo forum so not new to the site...and i hav been reading what the posts were about but i was just diagnosed with osteo and just kinda wanted to kno if anyone else is or has been in my situation and ive had other wierd things going on that i was wondering if anybody had due to their osteoporosis... Well, im 19, and just had a dexa scan and the results came back really really bad... my hips and neck were at -2.5 and my spine was a -3.8 so not good to say the least...i hav been doing a lot of reading and i am going back to the drs monday for blood tests to see why my bones r so bad.. but i do kno that paratyriod issues can be at fault, and i do seem to hav lots of symptoms lik fatigue and such.... but also for months now i hav had pain just all thru out my body almost lik fibromyalgia pain, and sometimes it gets really bad in by back and my legs..does anyone hav this with their osteo? Also my joints hav just been insanely painful, esp when its damp or raining out... and kinda wondering if this could be linked too? anyway just kinda wanted to kno if anyone has been in my boat or had stories simmilar? No offense intended but i just feel lik im 98 years old, and i never really thought stuff lik this would happen to me this young...ive dealt with a lil bit of this with my other med issues and kinda figured i was medically domed but thought at least it would come with age..not all at once! im in testing for rhuematiod arthritis too and its just so endless...i already went thru 8 months of heck when the docs were trying to figure out wat was going on with my pelvic regions and im starting to wonder if i can take that again... Anyway sorry to hav gone on for so long, just feeling very exhausted, and thank u all for taking the time to read my long post! Thanks everyone Posted on 07/19/09, 12:07 am |

Sorry you have osteopoprosis, so young as well. Your results are almost the same as mine, but then Im 67!! Im not taking anything at the moment, just Calcium/vit D,lots of exercise and eating healthily. Lots of greens for calcium.Im doing some Tai chi as well for balance. Ive been prescribed drugs but after researching them Ive decided to try the natural route first, might be a mistake but I will give it a go.
I didnt think you got pain with the osteo unless you had broken bones. I havnt looked on your profile so I dont know what else you suffer with. It sounds like arthritis to me, but what do I know? Im so sorry you are going through all this at your age, you should ne enjoying life not suffering. I hope you get some relief and answers soon. Good Luck

Certainly, thyroid issues can affect osteop. at a young age. So can eating disorders and taking proton pump inhibiters or lack of stomach acid. There is a link between chronic pain and low vit. D levels. So you need to have a complete diagnostic to find out the cause of the osteo and the pain. I had osteo for several yrs, no pain. But I do have fibro, which did not cause the osteo. I do have the osteo profile, but mine was accelerated by proton pump inhibiters.

If you're not seeing an endocrinologist, I would suggest your seeing one given your young age especially for a complete work-up.
