I am 30 years old and just found out I have osteoporosis. I was in a bad car accident last month and have 4 compression fractures in my thoracic spine and a collapsed vertabrae. I started taking calcium D supplements and my dr prescribed Actonel. I have not started taking the Actonel yet. I have read scary things about the prescripton drugs- does anyone have advice- should I start taking thee Actonel? I am only 30 and am terrified at having osteoporosis.. any advice is appreciated. thanks.

" I'm 62 and I was started on Fosomax several years ago. It gave me terrible acid reflux - you had to take it once a week. Now I take Actonel - have only taken it for four months. The thing I do like is that you only have to take it once a month. That is nice. I am finding, however, I have more acid reflux again. Then they put you on a pill for the acid reflux. I find it all frustrating and yet, I too, do not want osteoporosis. Be sure to read and check yourself for side effects and let your doctor know what you are going through. Take care and hope all goes well. It was certainly sad to read that you were in a car accident. I'm sorry. SUE "

" Hi

I waas diagnosed last October, its very scary, I hate it, I hate the drugs as well. I tried the Fosomax etc. and couldnt take it. I am about to try Forteo, like you I am terrified about all of this, all the side effects are horrid, but what do we do? There are lots of websites to look at, but its a difficult decision to make.
Hope you feel better soon. "

" Hi, I was dx with osteoporosis in 2006. I didn't want to take Fosamax as it has so many side effects. I think I took my mom's as she was moved up to Forteo. After 3 months or maybe 2, I quit it. I went with a bio-identical progesterone cream. I have been on it 8 months with supplements of calcium and vitamin D3. I am now Osteopenia with much better T-scores and low probability of fracture. It worked and I will continue to use it. It is cheaper than prescription with no side effects.

I am sorry to hear about your car accident. I hope and pray you are doing much better. Bunni "

" P-l-e-a-s-e before you take any of the prescribed so-called bone building drugs...go online and purchase Vivian Goldschmidt's book called the Bone Health Revolution...best $30 you may ever spend....at Saveourbones.com
I have actually increased my bone density by taking e-zorb calcium (look that up on net as well)along with boron, magnesium and silica. There are indeed alternatives to taking these very dangerous drugs doctors are pushed to prescribe by major drug companies. "
