Wow, quiet group!
So, i'm just starting to date a girl with OI. I'm a nurse so i'm not unfamiliar with the disease, in theory, but i've not met anyone with the condition before her.

She has type III, uses a w/c, and is very short statured.

Wondering if you have any tricks, tips, advice for dating, in the ways that dating is different.
Please don't find me disrespectful, that is not my intention.

" Thanks bigpuppy, We've been together for 2 months now, and things are going well... We've got routines down, and i've already learned for the most part what she will need assistance with, what she likes to do independantly.
Things are good, and i'm quite happy, thanks for the tips. "

" My son (38 years old) could tell you better than I can. He has OI . He has dated and is now married. I think you can also ask the girl. Let her tell you about her limitations and about any special handling she might require. I assume she is not a young child . So she would know better than anyone. People who are born with a condition are some time very independent as much as they can be. So you kind of have to let them tell you what help they need if any. My son is very independent except, when it comes to going down an incline or ramp. He wants someone to hold on to his wheel chair so it will not tip over forward. this has happened only once and it was not on an incline. His wheel chair rolled off a curb and he hit face down on the street and broke a lot of bones , arms, legs, skull, nose, collar bone. Only once was all it took for him to be afraid of falling forward in his wheel chair.
Most OI adults have very few fractures in adult hood. It take more pressure to break the bones than it did when they were kids and they just learn what not to do.. Do not push her wheel chair fast. if you are pushing it. you do not want to hit a hole or a bump or a un level side walk that would cause the chair to tip forward. Do not jam on your car breaks if you can keep from it. If you have to lift her for some reason, ask her how she wants you to do it. Just be nice and sweet and kind and considerate as well as ocamodatimg. Be polite and nice, be a gental man be charming and galant and be fun. good luck if you have any more Questions just ask. Ann "
