For ten years I have been waiting for a liver transplant and could only sign up with one center due to insurance restrictions. I am now on medicare and can go anywhere. I am interested in anybody's thoughts or experiences on any liver transplant centers in the western USA or east too..

" Not sure if it's a possiblity for you, but my brother just had a liver transplant in Colombia (country) several weeks ago, he waited only 4 months and got a healthy 22 y/o liver. They do more transplants there than anywhere else in the world, and very very professional. I can send you over some information we have if you want. "

" I'm not sure about adult centers. I only look at pediatric centers for my son. But I would suggest going on www.unos.org. On the homepage there is a link for patient survival rates. Just click on the state your thinking about, go to liver centers, then select the hospital your interested in. It will list how many people are waiting and what the survival rates are compared to the national average. Also, research under US News World and Report and look under best hospitals. Maybe it will list something about liver centers. Good luck! "

" If you can come south, UAB- University Of Alabama, in Birmingham has the best transplant center. I had a liver and kidney transplant Dec.9.2007 and have done Great. I was on the list for only 2 months before I was blessed with my transplants. Consider coming South! "

" I had my liver transplant performed at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Massachusetts. I'm sure this raises a question of bias, of course, but I honestly can not even describe how truly wonderful the nurses and entire liver transplant team was to me before and after my surgery and still to this day when I go back for my "checkups". When I meet with any of the several doctors/surgeons involved with my case I truly sense that they actually care not only about blood test results but about how I am doing as a person: mentally and physically. " I have had two liver transplants, both at the University of Washington in Seattle. I think they have now over 1000 livers under their belts. Waited 5 months for the first one and started rejected after 60 days. Was re-transplanted 70 days later and alls well after 2 years. "

" Hi,
California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC) in San Francisco does liver transplants. Also, UCSF does liver transplants.

Good Luck! "
