What are symtoms of rejection after your liver transplant? Mt lft #'s wereinthe100's last week andmy dr.s seemed to be very concerned I have a 6 month check-up on tuesday next week and I am a little scared the dr.s wiilbe very upset with me.I did forget to take my meds a couple of timesand they practically kicked me out of the program It was a very honest mistake. I woder what they do for rejection also I know they don't have to replace your liver every time but do you have to stay in the hospital? I have had a few symptoms of liver failure again I am afraid to complain about them to my husband (if I don't say it out loud maybe it's not true)! I know how crazythat sounds but I really don't have time to be sick. My Daughter (my only child ) is graduating from highschool soon and starting college in August I am just to busy to deal with rejection.Well thanks for anycomments you may have and for letting me ramble on and on . Tricia

" I believe they told me to watch for yellowing skin and yeyes for one thing. Rejection is not something to mess around with especially whe it comes to your liver. I know I have had the same one for 21 years now. Missing your meds for a few days is not going to make your liver reject as you have the meds built up in your system. I have missed mine for a few days in a row also. I don't know what the numbers are. All they ever told me was my bilirubin levels. Of course I'm sure things have changed over the years.
I will be praying for you, :) Sue "

" Girl, how can you "forget" to take those life saving meds? The doctors told us that most people who die following a transplant don't die from rejection directly, they die from non-compliance -- not following the doctor's orders like keeping appointments for lab work and taking the prescribed medications as prescribed. Keep it up and you may not be here for your daughter's graduation. Take the time to take care of YOU! You have to take care of yourself before you can take care of others. Your daughter would NOT want to know you took chances with your life because of her graduation. PLEASE, be more diligent in looking after yourself and taking your meds as prescribed. You have been given a wonderful gift--a second chance for life and a long, healthy, happy life with your husband and daughter. Cherish it and be a good girl -- now, Mama Karen says - GO TAKE YOUR MEDS! (and yes, I am yelling :) ) "

" I am a kidney transplant patient and had 3 mild rejections. They were easy to treat because they were caught so early. For 2 of them I got IV Prednisone for 5 days and for one of them, they had me take extra oral Prednisone. Get in right away if you suspect rejection. If you wait too long you could possibly lose your organ. If you don't have time for it you have to make time. Forgetting your meds once in awhile is not a big deal as they are built up in your system. Missing a few days in a row could possibly cause rejection. I don't know if liver rejection is treated the same way but if so it's really easy. Please please don't waste any time in getting yourself checked!!! "

" Carrie - you and I ended up, somehow, with it popping up as if it were a new post. I didn't notice the date of April either. Oh Well! Hopefully Tricia is doing well. "

" I was just looking at Tricia's profile and she wrote some journal entries in November, one of them being that her doc says everything is A-okay as far as the transplant goes. "
