My 9 year old son has totally shut down at school. We can't get him to do anything he is told. We have just started counceling. I joined this to get some pointers on how to get him on track again.

" We had to put our child in homeschool, BUT I will repeat BUT, homeschool was a terrible choice with my son's ODD issues. I do pray things will work out for you and your school with be of good help. Therapy is a must but it also would be helpful to do some family therapy as well. Don't give up and read as much as you can about his symptoms and study up on different methods of handling it. We are here to listen! So if you need to vent..go for it. Take care. "

" My 14-year-old has been going thru the same thing for the past year. Counseling didn't work. Consequences didn't work. Contracts didn't work. Right now, I'm working on getting him tested by this multi-disciplinary group (kind of a holistic thing). Hopefully, this will help me figure out what's wrong.

I'm not saying all this to discourage you, but do brace yourself. "
