My son just started clonodine 3days ago and i'm still not sure if I made the right choice. I feel so guilty and scared that he is on meds. I'm not sure if it is safe.

My daughter was on it in 2nd grade.. she did not have any side effects from it, but it did not work for her,, they put her on risperdal and it helped other than she had a tremondous amount og weight gain,, so we did not take that long,, I have heard of other kids being on clonidine and it works okay,, it is hard to not feel bad because thay are on meds,, but if it helps them maintain. it is worth it.

I agree with bugsmom, if it helps them to survive what choice do you have. I never, ever thought I would allow my child to be medicated, but things got so bad when he was 12 that I was happy to drug him. It helped our family to survive. He has never taken clonodine, so I'm not familiar with that, but we've tried many others before settling on Zoloft, Wellbutrin, and Geodon.

My daughter has been off & on Clonidine for about 5 years, it helps the most of any we tried, and has no or little side effects. I'm all for it!

My son has just started on the resperidal so it is too soon to tell whether that works. Life is a course of ups and downs. Just wanted to let you know that most of relate about the medication thing. We too were the parents that swore we would never put our kid on "drugs" or that add/odd was a crutch for lack of discipline. Let me tell you I now feel badly for ever thinking those things... if your child truely has these diagnoses you will know. I don't think sometimes we are left with a choice, do what is best for your child and know that people are out there that relate, appreciate and sympathize.
