i just got into a huge fight with my husband after our 2 year old daughter screamed her lungs out earlier for the first time ever in a restaurant. He cites maybe we are "not parenting properly" and this hurts because I do 90% of the parenting here. Anyway, we got home and all I want to do is clean to make everything feel "right again." I have a history of contamination obsessions and cleaning rituals. I am not so much fearful of the diseases germs can bring but am rather a perfectionist who believes if everything is clean everything is in order and ok. Does anyone else suffer this?

" Hi bethmach,

well, off the bat it sounds like he needs to contribute more to the parenting, but I don't know what your job situation etc. is. :)

I just had a baby with my live-in partner so I don't know much about parenting yet, but I believe that both parents should set limits and raise the kid etc.

Kids do strange things, I wouldn't beat myself up too much about it, but communication is the key.

I have a somewhat similar obsession with work where I need to keep customers happy and obsess a lot if someone isn't happy, but I've learned over the years that you have to take care of yourself and prioritize other things to "keep the boat afloat".

I mean, why not spend that time talking to the child about what happened instead of cleaning?

I know I might be oversimplifying your situation (I've had my own obsessions) but you know.. "

" oh heey
all children have times where they need to use their lungs..
if you feel that your husband isn't contributing as much, get him to do little things that he can manage

but i completely understand.. but rather than cleaning you should try keeping a journal to write how you feel.. or meditate to think things over
and realize that cleaning and organzing will not fix everything

I have a similar obsession where i feel that if i go past something that is out of place or 'messy' i have to immidiately fix it, otherwise i feel terrible
for example i cannot go past an open trash can without closing it
i'm getting better though :) "

" Hi Bethmach. I have the same problem you do. For some reason I am always cleaning. If something is out of place I see dust or anything, I just start cleaning. I am a huge perfectionist, and I like things to be clean. I don't think it is a bad thing. You may want to see a specialist about it though, because I was diagnosed with OCD, so you may have it as well. Best of luck "
