I suffered from the fear of becoming a pedophile for a few yrs and although I'm happy to have gotten over that 1, now for the past month I've been terrified of becoming schizophrenic. What I've been struggling with is whether or not I hear voices. I never hear them during the day, mayb because I'm up n busy but at night when I lay down to go to sleep, or am half sleep my mind just goes a mile a minute..I can b consciously thinking about 1 thing and then a random word that I wasn't even thinkin of will pop in my mind. This scares me so much I can hardly sleep b/c I wonder y this word or phrase popped in my mind if I wasn't conscious of it. Or ill b half asleep and a word or noise will pop in my head loudly n wake me up. It started soon as I began worrying about losing it but gets worse the more I think of it. Am I slowly losing my mind? I asked my psych n she said it was just the anxiety n the fact that I'm obsessing n concentrating on it so much but I'm not convinced. Plz sum1 help me I'm really scared n feel like giving up

Hiya, the one thing that springs to mind is that with OCD, I think it seems to be that we always seem to need to focus on one thing at a time- if its not one thing its another thing. I know this from having went from a variety of worries.
I think your pshyc is right, I agree with him/her, you feel you are going crazy because you are focusing on it and worrying about it, its an anxiety thing. If it helps, I have once worried about being schitzophrenic too! I am not though. As for the words/phrases that pop into your head, I get those too! Sometimes I get some really random or horrific words into my head, I wonder where they come from and get anxious about them. But they are just intrusive thoughts, like intrusive images are. Also, unlike schitzophrenia which is other people's voices in your head, OCD is your own thought voice. Good luck x

If you've been diagnosed with OCD then it's your OCD that's playing with your mind. As hard as this might sound, try to place no importance on the thought says you are becoming schizo. Ignore it and label it as your OCD.
If you try to reassure yourself or check for signs that your schizo(both compulsions btw) you'll only strengthen the obsession. Funny as it sounds, acceptance of the thought(all it is --a thought) is the pathway to peace.

This appears to be typical OCD. Be gentle with yourself and take it one day at a time. You are in our prayers :)
