Hi!
My therapist says I have OCD because I have intrusive thoughts, etc. But I just have the obsessive type. I was wondering what medications any of you have tried and the pros and cons of them all. I would like details please :) I'm very skeptical of medication, but after dealing with this my entire life, I think it will be the only thing that will help me. I know everyone is effected differently by different medications, but I am just wondering what you all have tried. Your answers are very helpful. Thank you! :)

" The thought of going on medication scares me, but I don't know if it's a justified fear or irrational : ) It's great to hear what works for everyone else though. "

" Currently on40mg Prozac and 50mgseroquel (twice a day). I'm also diagnosed with anxiety and disorder along win OCD (mine is also pure o.) anyways didn't notice much of a diffence with Prozac but Prozac +Seroquel is the ultimate relief a much quieter mind and shorter periods of repetitive thoughts. " Luvox has worked wonders for me for years. I still have problems with handwashing but it has silenced the violent intrusive thoughts. "

" Prozac, up to 60 mg, Trazadone, 100 mg, Seroquel 200 mg, Clonazepam 2mg and Ativan as a PRN. The OCD seems to go in ebbs and flows, but it is always there. Concomitant depression is part of my battle as well. "

" Ok dumb question here. My daughter has OCD and I am trying to figure this all out. It sounds like the anxiety is treated separately from the OCD? I thought the anxiety was part of the OCD. It sounds like the OCD is split into it parts & treated by each symptom? Thanks for explaining. "

" There are no dumb questions here! This is complicated stuff. As a social worker who works with mentally ill, I see it as different. OCD has specific symptoms, ie, sometimes compulsions, but a lot of obsessive thoughts. These thoughts are repetitive and often to do stop by simply "thinking" them away. Anxiety is different, anxiety has many more physiological symptoms: excessive sweating, higher heartrate, hot/cold flashes, shortness of breath; or excessive worry... But the thoughts change, and can spiral into "if this, then this". OCD is more of "what if I do the thing that I would never do", or, also, " I need to do this thing, I need to do this thing, I need to do this thing." does that make sense? :) "
