Advice:
i cant stop thinking have I had sex & not remember

Hi,

This happens each time I go out with friends drinking.
I always get very anxious the following day with the obsession ' have i had sex with someone and can't remember it' .
This is really getting to me now, I just want to go out with friends and enhoy the night and not have to think this over and over in my mind.
I do have about 3-4 drinks when I am out, so I am not that drunk that I would not remember it.
I feel like I am going out of my mind.

I have had CBT, and been advised that if I had sex, I would remember it, that it would be in my memory banks, and that I would not remember unimportant things, such as talking to certain people etc.

Can anyone please help with this.

Thank you

" Hi Cheryl,

Sorry to see that your OCD is still so bad, even after CBT. I have been to 4 behavioral therapists but only two helped at all.

I am wondering what the CBT was specifically. Was it just the reassurance you wrote about, because that is not CBT. If you made up a scenerio with your therapist where you were always going out and drinking and always bringing a guy home and having sex and adding whatever other fears you have about one night stands (disease, reputation, pregnancy, etc.), recording it on tape or CD, then going home and listenting to it over and over until does not bother you would help alot. Also, sometimes OCDers need to either switch to a more effective Behav Therapist (like I did) or redo CBT and add stronger and more fearful elements to it. CBT/BT can fail alot for OCDers because it was not tough enough for patient, fearfulful enough or not properly targeted. Plus, the stronger your OCD, the more resistant to CBT/BT it can be and sometimes you may need to go thru CBT again.

I was also wondering what other OCD symptoms you had. I feel havcing some succes with one OCD symptom using BT/CBT can help with other symptoms. If this symptom persists, try to work on another one.

Lastly, we all undertand too well your feelings of "why can't I just do "X" without fearful obsessions and compulsions?" I used to say and think that all the time. The answer is obvious. We all on here have a crippling psych disorder called OCD that is driven by fear/anxiety. Get rid of fear/anxiety, OCD is all gone.

OCD does not cause fear/anxiety, it is caused by it. "

" Cheryl,

RTWaves is right with his advice. If your therapist talked to you about it only then he or she is wasting your time and money period. If you are not doing homework for your obsessions then this too is a problem. I would suggest making up even more fearful scenarios with this obsession. Kill it with making it worst. Go to ocdonline and read the articles written by Dr. Steven Phillipson. It should give you more insight as to what you are doing. Finally, you absolutely would know if you had sex with someone, even people that are drugged know later. So a few drinks may make you act stupid, but a loss of memory...no way. "
