I have thoughts of hurting my loved ones. I am so scared that I will either go nuts and act on them and hurt them or I am just going to start acting. I have thought about giving my son to his father amd have them move far away to make sure that he is safe from me. My whole family knows about these thoughts and the ocd and say they know I won't act on them but they don't have the feelings and the panic I do. I wish that they would judt go away. I can't take the medication for the ocd due to the fact that I am also bipolar 2 and the ocd meds will make things worse. So my question is without medication what are the odds that people act on the intrusive ocd thoughts? And should I be worried for my son? Is being with me the best for him? This has alawys been my greatest fear. Having my ocd thoughts aganist my kids.

If you dont want to do something then you wont. And it is very obvious that you dont :-)
Just because you have a thought or a feeling about doing something, that does NOT mean you will ever ever do it. You are 100% in control of your own body, and as scary as your OCD thoughts are, your true self and your logic will always be stronger. Your son needs you! You are his mommy and you love him ... that is easy to see!

I have the same thing as you, I worry about hurting loved ones, So I purchased a self help book at amazon.com for OCD and there is a chapter specifically relating to this, and one of the things i read was that people with ocd are extremely unlikely to ever carry out the acts or urges that pop into their head, and that people with ocd are highly responsible individuals and concerned with doing things right. I hope that helps you, I just tell myself that I love my family so much, I would never do that to them. You should look into getting the book. It has you do all these different exercises to help with your ocd. It has helped me :)

Believe me, I truly understand what you're going through. I went through the same thing. The thoughts are o.c.d. & not the real you. I think you should talk to your doctor/therapist about how to control your o.c.d. Maybe there's some type of medication you can take that won't interact with your bipolar issue. I hope this helps. You can send me a message anytime. I believe we can help each other.

The odds of you acting on your thoughts are virtually nothing. You are feeling anxious about these thoughts and so you won't. I read somewhere that ocd patients often have obsessions about the last thing in the world they would ever do, and that they never act on these thoughts. i had the exact same intrusive thoughts as you a few years ago and i honestly thought i was going to act on them because the thoughts and urges and images were so real. you likely have these thoughts about your kids because you love them so much, and you had a fear of having these obsessions about your kids. i always had them about my parents and my grandparents..it was terrible. but it is just your ocd and you will not act on them.

I have those types of thoughts a lot and I have 3 children. I have never acted on them and my GP says I never will its just part of OCD. I don't understand it but i feel a lot less frightened now I know I am in control and not my OCD.

If you were going to act on them, they wouldn't disturb you. If you were that kind of person, you wouldn't be horrified by the idea of killing someone. You aren't going to act on them.
