I have to start out by saying that I love the activities that occur during Halloween. Carving pumpkins, decorating, passing out candy all that fun stuff. And I do like going to Halloween parties, but it is always horrible trying to find a costume. There are a couple Halloween stores here where I live so for some reason every year I decide to go there to look for a costume. I am not sure why I do that because I go in and there are all these tiny little people also shopping there which already makes me feel uncomfortable. But then I actually start looking at the costumes and that is where the depression starts to set in. I look at the bags that the costumes are in for what size it is and many of them say "one size fits all" and then I look at the back of the back and it gives measurements so it will say "fits people who are 5'7 - 5'10 who weigh between 130 and 150 or something like that. And this is on the back of the "one size fits all" now last time I checked not everyone is that size so for the front to say fits all then the back to say "as long as you weigh 150" seems pretty contradictory to me. And then they do have some "plus size" costumes I see them and think great I will actually be able to buy a costume and not have to go to 7 different stores looking for costume parts. Well the "plus size" costumes only go up to an XL and then on the back it says "for people who wears dress size 10-12. Now once again last time I checked anyone who wears a size 10 is not plus size. And that is defiantly not an XL. I am sorry that this is so long but it really bothers me that people actually consider someone who wears a size 10 "plus size" and that costume shops apparently do not think that bigger people like to dress up for Halloween. So I had to go buy a plain black dress from a plus size clothing store and figure out an idea for that because no places around here sell costumes for anyone who weighs over 150 pounds.
Thanks for reading sorry it was so long. Posted on 10/31/09, 09:10 pm |

I know what you mean. It truly is frusterating. I bout a plus size snow white costume from ebay about three years ago, and it was a 4x. (it was homemade) it cost me 80 bucks, plus shipping.
I hate that because we are fat, people either do not cater to us, or charge us about 3 times what they charge everyone else.

I totally agree. Or when you try to buy clothes of any kind and the 'plus-size' section is full of XL clothes. Sorry, plus size is not people who fit into XL clothes.

Exactly alysiasmommy. I get so annoyed when I go to the plus size section and it is full of xl clothes. It made me so sick the other day I went to go find a red sweater and there was a girl at the counter talking to the sales lady and she was complaining that when she put on her size 1 jeans they were a little tight. It aggravated me so much to hear her complain about that.
And snowflakeice, I had thought about buying a costume on ebay but they do charge so much, apparently they think we need to spend 3 times as much as everyone else. And that is wrong, because I like to dress up for Halloween but I do not like to have to spend $80 or $100 just to do it.

I love dressing up for Halloween but have found that on-line ordering is the best option for plus-size. You have to hunt around a bit for for economical options and the sizes can vary even within one company.
