I got to thinking and feeling sad today for all the things I've missed out on because of my over eating, so I thought it would be helpful to list them. Maybe someone else will also find it helpful.
1. As a child I missed out on games because I didnt want to leave my food to go play with them. 2. As a teen I missed out on activities because I couldnt do them. 3. I missed out on having friends and getting picked for teams or invited to parties and such. 4.overeating has stolen my confidence and self-esteem 5. it changed the course of my life because I went to an interview for a scholarship to be a veterinary tech and the interviewer told me I didn't look healthy. I knew it was code for I'm fat. I was horrified and never applied for anything like that since. 6. I have missed out on uncountable jobs that I would have been really good at because people judged me by my weight. 7. I have been ridiculed and humiliated my entire life because of my weight. 8. It has kept me from having meaningful relationships because I thought I wasn't worthy and it has kept me in relationships that weren't healthy for me. 9. It has caused me to miss out on time with my children because I lacked energy or physically wasn't able to do things with them. 10. it has caused my children to be embarassed of me. 11. it has caused me to be embarassed of myself. There are many things I won't do because of how I would look doing them. 12. it has robbed me of things that I want to do and physically cannot do. 13. It has kept me in depression for years. 14. It has given me a body that does not match my spirit. I'm sure there's more, but that's all for the moment. Posted on 06/25/09, 10:06 pm |

This is a very brave and personal post. Thank you for sharing it with us. I like your spirit very much, and I can identify with being ridiculed and humiliated and judged, the loss of self-esteem, missing out on meaningful relationships, the depression. I have very recently started therapy to help me face my anxiety and depression and to learn a different way of thinking. I hope it helps. It's going to take a long time, and it's going to be painful at times, but I really want my body to match my spirit too and it all has to be worked at the same time. Thanks again for your honesty and inspiration.

WOW! you are so right, and I agree with susan it is very personal. I know I have skipped out on doing things when I was a child just because I was afraid I was going to be laughed at. I love the water, and swimming, but would never go because of others that would make fun of me. You really give us all something to think about.
Thanks for the reality check! :) I admire you for posting this.
