I went to a Curves gym last night and I actually kinda enjoyed it. It is very different to other gyms with machines arranged in a circle rather than in lines. The machines are not your usual cycles/treadmills either, they are designed for women to work out the muscles we need, in comparison to usual gyms which are designed for men. There is no queueing for machines as they work in a circuit, every few minutes the music stops and a command is given to change machines or take your pulse. No men either. The only drawback is that it is in the basement of a branch of Subway! Any other Curves fans out there?

" Way to go, Lizzie!! I like to exercise, too. It just feels really good to move my body sometimes, and I get a sense of happiness or accomplishment after I do it, that gives me a little extra confidence all through my day. I guess its all those endorphins we release when we do it?
I also like Curves. I remember when the first one opened up over near my mom and I and we both just looked at each other and said "Wow! Finally!!!" LOL! Its just such a great idea, and we didn't have anything like it for so long.
I think the smell of the subway bread would probably drive me crazy and I'd drool all through the workout, though. I love the smell of fresh baked bread! "

" I jsut started going to Curves a couple weeks ago. I talked my mom into going with me. I usually have trouble sticking to anything, no matter how much I like it, but my motivation this time: I signed up for a year, so I have to pay no matter what.
But I love it. It's in all the towns around me. I go to the one near my work. No Subway, just a video store. :) "

" Great Lizzy, glad you tried it... and even better, you like it!!! That's so awesome!!

I have never been, I think I stick better when I do at home. This way there is really no excuse for me not to get to it. We live in the country and it's expensive to drive into town. "

" I *heart* curves. When I get to go, anyway.

I think membership is 30-something a month, which is a lot cheaper than most gyms. "

" There is a membership start up fee. They usually have some kind of deal going on. Month by month is $44. If you sign up for a year, it's $34. As dar as I know, they're all the same for that. "

" I liked Curves as well! I did it for about 6 months. I never lost an ounce or an inch.

What I liked about it was, it was socialization and that most of the women who were in there, were normal and no-one was Barbie.

I really wanted it to work for me. I guess it does for some people. :-) The counslors tried everything to get the weight off, (I even tried their "diet" and did extra exercises after the circut)it just wasn't happening.

Towards the end of the 6th months of my membership I was diagnosed with Chronic Fatique Syndrome and that is what ended the workouts. I would usually be in there every day and then I cut back to 3 times a week, till I couldn't do it anymore.

I hope it works for ya Lizzie if you are planning to stay with it :-) "

" Hi all,

I live in Australia and we have Curves here, we also have a place called Healthy Inspirations which is similar to Curves as in it is a circuit of exercises designed for women only.

I have been a member for 4 weeks now and am really enjoying going and doing the circuits, the problem for me is that I have also been eating more in the last 4 weeks because I tell myself that i have exercised so it is ok!!!!!! I have lost nothing yet, but I have not put on any weight so I am happy with that, I am just trying to get into the routine of the exercise, then I will focus on the diet side of things.

Keep up all the good exercise everyone :) "

" At most curves students get a discount that comes out to $25/month. Just fyi in case any of you attend college. I liked curves but like anything else you need to be consistant with it to see the results. It's a good springboard into exercise for someone just starting or who has some physical limitations. "
