" There is a Gastric Bypass Support Group here on Daily Strength.

http://www.dailystrength.org/c/Gas...

Lots of pre-ops & post-ops would be happy to answer any Q's.

I had gastric bypass 6/06 it was the best gift I ever gave myself but it definitely is not a decision you want to enter into without mass research (from reliable sources). There's also lots of different surgery options gastric bypass is just one of several (gastric bypass, lap band, duodenal switch, VSG,...) and they all work a little differently.

Best wishes in your research and in your efforts to get healthy whether you choose surgical help or not,
~Michelle

" I recently met a woman who lost over 100 pounds with GBS then regained over 50 of it. The worst thing about her choice was watching the suffering she inflicted on her 9 yo daughter. She chose a surgeon who didn't require any counseling before or after the procedure and chose not to learn about healthy living or solve her underlying pain which led to poor eating choices and other lifestyle issues.

I'm no expert on GBS but I haven't met anyone really happy about their choice 5-10 years out, although I like Eggface's suggestion to talk to the folks here at DS GB support group.

My top weight was 352 lbs. I've lost 47 pounds using nutrition and exercise. My daughter watching how difficult it is for me to become healthy has decided she'd just rather having started out healthy just stay that way. I've been very honest with her about how I became obese and what choices I have to make each day to keep healing my body and moving toward my goals.

I'm using the Schwarzbein Principle for nutrition and a total lifestyle healing path. I hired a personal trainer who is RKC certified to train me to lift/swing Kettlebells. Yesterday, for the first time in my life, I ran. No running shoes (I was wearing Crocs), no lessons on running. It was an accident. I was out with my kidling and my dog and hiking in the calm weather in between storms. I was having fun hiking and before I knew it I was running like I'd been doing it all of my life. I have asthma, damaged lungs and injuries that made walking difficult up until only a few months ago. So I consider this more than I ever hoped I'd do.

My trainer is also certified in a system called Z-Health and used her knowledge in that system to free me from a prison of pain I've lived in for 4 years. I maintain my body in a pain free way now, I have more energy and mobility. I'm building up my strength and expecting to reach 140 pounds between June and Christmas of 2011.

I did the research on women who spent decades morbidly obese and were able to get the weight off and keep it off for at least 5 years. Research says that they eat 1400-1600 calories daily, exercise at least one hour at least 5 times per week.

I have found what works for me but you must find what works for you. If you want to chat about Z-Health, Kettlebells or the Schwarzbein Program feel free to drop me a line.

" i am 28 and been obese all my life, my doctor was pushing me to have surgery but i felt deep down that it was wrong and kept looking for an alternative solution. i have tried every day of my life to find a solution but i ended up being 21 stone,133 kilo, 295 ponds at end of may this year. however i am pleased to report i have lost 5 stone,35 kilo, around 70 pounds over the past 5 months and i am still losing. i did not get surgery or take any drugs, i did not stop eating or fall in love with exercise. i did find a solution that works for me. it is not an easy solution but i certainly am happier with my solution than with the idea of risky surgery. my solution is a group i found called food addicts in recovery anonymous. it is a bit like AA but for food addicts. i get lots of support and a really good healthy food plan that actually works without starving me. the plan is not a diet it is a long term life plan. an alcoholic who becomes sober does not cut down on alcohol , he becomes free from it by never picking it up. i have to eat but this food plan is very clever and really works. if anyone is desperate enough to consider surgery i recommend they check out this group first. you can beat this, you can love yourself "
