I am 5'10 so I think I know what weight looks like on tall people. Your MBI is 54.7 Obesity is 30. Normal weight = 18.5-24.9 You should not put the baby or your health at risk. You could very likely have Gestational Diabetes as a result of your obesity. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uX0... There is so many other health risk too. There is also the great possiblity that do to your obesity, you will not be able to get pregnant. PCOS is very common in over weight people. You can lose the weight and have a baby. My oldest daughter can't do anything about it. She went through menopause at 17 years old. My youngest daughter lost her first baby because she was underweight. She worked hard to get healthy for her next baby.
If you need help getting started just ask.

I'm 5'2" and 250 and I was able to get pregnant without trying. So your doc is full of crap. Get another doctor, one who won't immediately blame your weight.

I remember also reading a report that you shouldn't gain more than 15 pounds if obese when you are pregnant so when you do, be careful with your weight. I think it's best to lose before you get pregnant to offset the stress on your body.

whatever you do, DON'T GIVE UP! i am overweight and having a hard time getting pregnant too; however, know this: women of all shapes, sizes, races, medical histories, etc have babies all the time. do the research and find a doctor who is willing to help you do what it takes to have a baby. remember there are many ways to do this, but you need a doctor to help you. everyone has a story to tell, and something has happened to everyone. don't get bogged down by sad stories. do what you can do get yourself healthy, and talk to a doctor! good luck and please keep us posted!!!

Yes, you getting pregnant has more risks than a "healthy" person getting pregnant, but chances are, if you follow the steps and be as healthy as possible throughout your pregnancy, I don't see what the big deal is. I watched a documentary on obesity and pregnancy. It's quite possible. Try a new doctor!

Yes, it is riskier getting pregnant while overweight. But it is possible, and can result in a healthy pregnancy and a healthy child. I have had 3 children and was pretty overweight with each. All three are healthy, had healthy birthweights, and I made it through all three. You do need to be aware that a good doctor will support you in pregnancy, with nutritional help (healthy food in healthy amounts, since obese women shouldn't gain much weight). Frequent testing for pregnancy induced hypertension, gestational diabetes, and health of the baby. I didn't have monthly checkups, I was every other week until the 7th month, then every week. Your pregnancy is considered high risk, and your are at a much higher risk for large babies, early induction, and c-sections.
Its not all gloom and doom. I had mild high blood pressure with my first. My second pregnancy had no problems. My third, again mild high blood pressure and I had glucose levels tested several times- by the end, I wasn't allowed much sugar at all! All three had to be induced due to size, and that is painful. But all three were born healthy and normal. And my children have become one of my reasons to become healthier!

I wish you luck and success in your endeavors to conceive. I have given up on it for myself. I don't get real periods anymore and I'm pretty sure it's due to my weight.

It sounds like you have PCOF. There is treatment. Weight loss, a low carb diet and metformin works for alot of people. It is related to insulin resistance caused by being over weight.
Read http://women.webmd.com/tc/polycyst... The first step in managing PCOS is to get regular exercise and eat heart-healthy foods. This can help lower blood pressure and cholesterol and reduce the risk of diabetes and heart disease. It can also help you lose weight if you need to. Try to fit in moderate activity and/or vigorous activity on a regular basis. Walking is a great exercise that most people can do. Eat a heart-healthy diet. In general, this diet has lots of vegetables, fruits, nuts, beans, and whole grains. It also limits foods that are high in saturated fat, such as meats, cheeses, and fried foods. If you have blood sugar problems, try to eat about the same amount of carbohydrate at each meal. A registered dietitian can help you make a meal plan. Most women with PCOS can benefit from losing weight. Even losing 10lb may help get your hormones in balance and regulate your menstrual cycle. PCOS can make it hard to lose weight, so work with your doctor to make a plan that can help you succeed. If you smoke, consider quitting. Women who smoke have higher androgen levels that may contribute to PCOS symptoms.1 Smoking also increases the risk for heart disease. For more information, see the topic Quitting Tobacco Use. A doctor may also prescribe medicines, such as: Birth control pills. They can help your periods be regular and can reduce symptoms such as excess facial hair and acne. An androgen-lowering medicine, spironolactone, may be used with birth control pills to help reduce symptoms even more. These medicines are not used if you are trying to get pregnant. A diabetes medicine called metformin. It can help control insulin and blood sugar levels and reduce androgen levels. This lowers your risk for diabetes and heart disease and can help restore regular menstrual cycles and fertility. Fertility medicines, if you are trying to get pregnant. It is important to see your doctor for follow-up to make sure treatment is working and adjust it if needed. You may also need regular tests to check for diabetes, high blood pressure, and other possible problems. Also watch this You Tube 3 part Video on PCOF. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hYs...

Not to be mean or anything, but your next step is to lose weight. I'm 5'8 as well, my highest being only around 335, even now being at 259, I would NEVER even try to get pregnant at this weight. I'm not even healthy myself, so I couldn't even THINK about bringing another person into this world with my weight being where it is. Granted, someone of my size, if I were to get pregnant, should ONLY gain 10-15lbs, but the risks of diabetes, heart problems, pre-eclampsia(sp), organ damage are pretty much inevitable. That's being selfish by only naming the risks to myself, what about the risks to the baby???? For instance, my dear friend was about 5'2 and 250 and got pregnant.... She developed diabetes and pre-eclampsia, AND her daughter was born at about 28 weeks weigh-in at a pathetic 3lbs 2oz. Granted, her daughter is fine SO FAR (she's only 2 1/2) but what could have happened to her and her baby IS NOT WORTH IT!! Lose the weight first.... Good Luck!!!

okay so here's the deal.. im 32 weeks pregnant and im obese. I have been my whole life. I started this pregnancy at 281 and blew up to a whopping 341!! yeah i know... but right now everything is good. no gestational diabetes no high blood pressure, the only thing i will say is it is a physical strain on your body. If i could do it all over again, I would have lost more weight, but the pregnancy was unplanned. not everyone has problems or complications. I do swell a lot because of the weight which makes it harder to work, move or travel, but I can worry about the weight i gained after the baby is born. I do exercise and maintain a healthy diet, It's just hard when you swell up as much as I do.. just do what you think is best. If you are a healthy overweight person like me, then go for it. I have doctors who really care about me, and will don't judge me because of my weight. I would talk to a nutritionist before you get pregnant though, To work out a nice meal plan to jump start your healthy lifestyle while pregnant!! GOOD LUCK!!
