Advice:
Winter Clothes?

I'll be moving at the end of august to a small town located high up on the mountains. I've already visited there, its cold, a lot colder than I'm used to.

I need to buy a good, warm, winter coat. A few months ago (around feb) I went searching through all the stores around where I currently live, and everything was too small. and the one or two coats that weren't too small to fit me, they were ugly and unflattering. The one made me look like a huge puffy marshmallow, and the other was just as bad.

I'm not usually one for fashion, but I would like to buy something that not only fits but possibly looks a tad bit nicer. I'm moving to a new location, to go to a new school, I don't want any more attention drawn to myself. I just want a nice warm coat to wear that doesn't make me look 5 times larger than I already am. Is that too much to ask for?

For a coat I'll need either a 2x or a 3x. Probably closer to the 2x but with the variation in sizes these days I'm not exactly sure. All I know is that most of the stores I went to, didn't sell past XL (and I went all over the place, including stores that sell clothing for skiing and outdoor sports and stuff) .

does anyone know of any brands, or stores or even maybe online shop where I might be able to find a reliable, warm, winter coat that will actually fit ?

" Please don't get a marshmellow coat! I never thought they looked good on anyone! That is just my opinion, of course.

I live in the south, and it is really hard to find a store that is carrying winter coats right now, but I can share a few websites:

Do a google search for "plus size outerwear"

All winter coats make me feel like I turn into a barrel. How I would love to find a wool peacoat next winter that my chubby arms could fit into.

Anyway, find a coat that you love. Make sure it fits in the shoulder chest. Make sure it zips/buttons up. If it still doesn't feel good, go spend a little more money and find a tailor to tuck in the bulky parts. If you are going to be wearing this coat nearly everyday, you might as well feel fabulous in it.

Personally, I find that fuller women look better in coats that hit below the hip. When they hit above your belly, they tend to hilight the area. "

" I'd start at onestopplus.com. There are some nice looking coats, many styles. I've gotten a few from there. I've also gone to junonia.com where they sell active wear and sometimes have nice outerwear. I'm sure you'll find something!! "

" PS: Who invented the marshmallow coat, anyway? I look like the State Puff Marshmallow Man or the Michelin Tire Man in that style, and I don't know many people who can pull that look off. LOL!! "

" Have you thought about going Columbia? I know they are more sporty and a lot of skiers where them but they are super warm and they sell up to 3X. I got one in the mens department but it is red and white. They are more pricy but they are warm and last forever:) Good luck! "

" I was disappointed with the jackets in stock at LL Bean stores, but if you go through the catalogue, or on-line you can get a good jacket. I always buy LL Bean so I can return it if I lose/gain weight or if something goes wrong with it. I usually buy the 3 in one jackets so I get a spring coat, a fall coat and a winter coat. Good luck! " my jacket is a north face, but it's a men's. it's completely black so you really can't even tell the difference. that's always an option too.

in terms of winter clothes, a lot of my comfy clothes, such as thermal tees and hoodies, are men's. "
