Very, Very Embarassing Question

I experience a daily anal discharge, which requires me to wear a pad everyday. The doctor that did my colonscopy told me that this occurs in most people due to their weight problem. Has anyone else experienced this horrible problem that could share their findings/advice with me please?

Hello, and thank you for being brave enough to share a personal concern. I haven't had anal discharge, hadn't heard of it. So real quick after reading your post, I googled "anal discharge symptom", the response changed "anal" to "rectal", but same-same. Anyway, a fast look at 10 causes...none said, "related to overweight". I'm suggesting either insist this doctor, if you really like him/her, does a more thorough diagnostic process or get a 2nd opinion. Seriously, for your health and peace of mind.
A sidenote on doctors as a person my size...I really, deeply resent the doctor who barely listens to my concern only to somehow tie whatever issue I have to my weight. Of course there can be a connection, but don't overlook potentially serious diagnoses by looking my body up and down in a glance and summing it up that I "just need to lose weight".

Could it be something in your diet? I heard WOW chips did that and some oils. How about Flax seed oil?

There are several reasons why a person can have anal discharge. I am not really sure if obesity can be the sole culprit but it sure can make the problem worse. It is possible you could have hemorrhoids internal ones that is. You could also have an anal fissure or a pilonidal cyst. Those are not always easy to spot and sometimes even a cat scan won't always detect them. Even having too much flatulance can cause anal discharge.
Seeing a rectal doctor is usually the best way to go as they are more helpful in detecting the problem.

i'm sorry to hear about your embarassing situation. its always hard having a health problem of this sort, and I admire your bravery for looking for advice about it.
I have never heard of this occurring in obese people. I have not had it, nor has my mother or grandmother, who are both also obese. It kind of sounds like another one of those situations of a doctor blaming obesity for every health related issue from digestive problems to mortal ailments (despite the fact that numerous people with diabetes, heart disease, etc are actually fairly slim and just don't watch their eating). I swear doctors would blame obesity for nose bleeds and killing puppies, if they could find the most remote 'evidence'. That being said, you might benefit from, as others have suggested, finding a second opinion. this does not just sound like something 'just caused by being overweight'. And it would probably be best for your peace of mind to know for sure.

Are you on any meds? I was looking into taking Xenical for my weight, and problems "down there" are VERY common... leaking with gas, stool changes, a lot. If you're on any new meds, that could be related as well.

Maybe try taking some fiber. I have to take it when I am on Iron and it just makes everything "work" better. Good luck!

I agree that doctors look at the weight and think it is all related to it. Sure my back pain has some connection to be 140 lbs overweight but I would have this even if I was skinny. In fact slim people do have lower back pain. It prevents me from shopping without a power wheelchair. If the store doesn't have it I can't shop. I am asking for a hearing on my social security. I see my lawyer Thursday. I can get my own wheelchair then.
They are taking my insurance 8/17 and the medicare would help. You would not believe some of the quotes I have been given! One was $5,000 deductible and $902 per month.
