If so, what sort of limitations did you find you had??? For instance I have heard that showers on cruises are typically smaller - and I'm thinking, OMG, HOW much smaller!?
We are taking a Carnival Cruise sometime this year and I am really hoping I can get some input from somebody who is also larger and knows the real limitations we may or, pleasantly, may NOT have, on a cruise. Please let me know everything!!! Don't censor, lol. :) Of particular concern of course are hygenic things like the bathroom, shower, etc! But I also want to know other things (are doorways on cruises of a "normal" size or are they extra small like on an airplane??) This is our first cruise. Thanks in advance!! Hi - I went on a Carnival curise a couple years ago and had a great time. It was my first experience on a ship, and I enjoyed it very much. The room was a normal room - normal doors, it looked like a typical hotel room. The showers were decent sized and they had a hand held shower head so it was very convenient. I was imagining something really small and cramped but I was pleasantly surprised. The state room was good sized and the bed was very comfortable. The only pain about the whole thing for me was the fire drill they do before they depart. Everyone on board must do it, and it's just a matter of filing up the stairs and putting on the live preserver thing. That's the only pain I experienced. Let me know if you have any questions. I hope you have a fantastic time!!

Ugh I am so jealous!! I went on a Carnival Cruise two years ago and had fun. The hallways are small on the ship but you will be fine. Like it is hard for two people to walk through at the same time but one just waits for the other to pass. The shower was smaller than a home shower but again don't worry you will be fine. I weigh 298 pounds and survived. I also went para-sailing and they didn't ask my weight!! There is nothing else that I can think of that effected me. There are plenty of elevators(for the lifedrill you do not have to buckle your life vest just throw it over your head) These people will never see you again so do not hold back on doing what you want. I went to a beach and went snorkeling. My big butt was up in the air but hey these people won't be back in my town! I hope you have a blast and make the most of it!!

Kate0783 that is great advice about do what you want these people will not see you again...going to Florida and I tend to worry what people think if I were to put a bathing suit on....I am still fat no matter what I dress in ;) :) I'll try to remember that when I go at the end of the month.
MrsCrabby...have fun!

One other thing...there are people of all shapes and sizes on the ship, and I saw many men and women who look like me. I felt very comfortable in my own skin.
And speaking of skin...one of the ports of call was Cancun, and I went swimming in the ocean. That experience will always stay with me. Swimming in the tropical warm water in Mexico...me in my bathing suit in front of (and along side) other people, and I LOVED IT! GO FOR IT!!!

Thanks ladies!!!
I'll post when we go - it won't be for like, 7 months, hehehe - but you can bet I am already counting the days!! It will be my first real vacation with hubby (he was new in his career when we got married, so we couldn't take a honeymoon) We've been married for 5 years now and 2 kids later - so this vacation is MUCH anticipated!!!! :)

I read about the bathing suits. I wanted to add something--I hate wearing a bathing suit. So much that I hadn't bought a new one since I was in high school! But, we have a Fashion Bug in my area and they had a GREAT sale (and they keep having them) for bathing suits, including plus size ones. I love the bathing suit I got because it's a "swim dress" so it covers my butt and most of my thighs!! Last year when my husband and I went to a hotel for our wedding night I wore a tshirt and shorts in the hot tub. I wanted so badly to swim in the pool, but I didn't. Then when we went on our honeymoon to Niagara Falls I didn't even bring a "bathing suit" or shorts/tshirt to wear because I didn't want to deal with it. I now regret it.
SO, to make a long story short, like others are saying--make the most of it! And, if you need a bathing suit, try Fashion bug--http://www.fashionbug.com/pagebuilder/product_thumbnail_image?cgid1=676&nav=Plus&sub_cat=SWIM

There was a time when I would not go swimming because of feeling so self-conscious. I now do whatever I want...and you know what....you will find you are not the only big girl in the pool! Places like Lane Bryant have coverups and I just leave my coverup on until I get ready to get in the pool. After that, I'm relaxed enough to lie in the sun and just enjoy.
Don't let the joys of life pass you by. I wish I had not wasted the years I held myself back from doing things because of my weight! So....enjoy your cruise....I have been on several, and loved all of them. :-)
