Some days its not around, other days its constant and mainly when I'm concentrating on something and when I'm around others. I realy want this thing to stop. I have an appointment with a neurologist in July - couldn't get an appointment earlier. Does anyone know if its caused by diabetes, psychiatric medications or extreme stress? I have or had all three.

I have a hard time coping with the problem as it distorts my vision and makes for very uncomfortable interactions with people. I try to explain but they still seem unnerved.

My hopes to everyone that they have the average eye sight that most people enjoy.

Blessings,
Cheryl

" Hello,

Do you drive a car? I did but when I got really tired the nystagmus would get worse. So the stress thing makes sense. I have had it from the moment I was born. I don't know any different. I do know that the farther away I look at something the harder it is to focus on the object. Freeway signs are hell! I can read them when I am just passing under them. Hang in there. There are drugs that can make it less. Ask your neurologist. I've never tried any. "

" Here's all I know.

Eat carrots.
Sleep well.
Maybe get a nice pair of sun glasses.
Stress will make it increase.
There are certain procedures, but they are risky at the moment.
The American Nystagmus Network is a good thing to google.
I also found a lot of information in a book called Navigating Nystagmus with your Doctor. Nothing that blew my mind, but its good to know the medical terms. The book emphasized that there is a lack of research in this area and that most places are ill equipped or uninformed about the latest research.
I wonder if they'll ever find a cure in our lifetime. I was born with it as well and its hard to come to terms with. I don't drive and finding a career has been hard. "

" I had a partial stroke 8 years ago and have had it all the time since, it is sure hell to be honest and not much helps. Some damage to my brain stem I am not sure if it will go. I DO sympathize. You are the ONLY other person I have read who has "acquired Nystagmus. Can I ask how old you are? When did it start? Where you ill?

it affects me on every level and wears me out. I have down beat. "

" Oh by the way for you, I suspect your medications may have caused it. I wish you all the luck in the world, don't give up. "
