We just found out yesterday that my grandfather has Multiple Myeloma, and has 5weeks-1year. My mom, sister, and grandma were emotional wrecks. I however, felt I needed to be the strong one. My grandma was so completely dependent upon him (they're from back in the day), and they live 3 hours away. I just don't know what to do, it's not like I can say, everythings going to be ok, because it's not. How? How do you stay positive? Also, I felt a little selfish, I thought how this would all interrupt my life, but now I feel like poop for ever thinking like that. I don't know, please help me try to be the support I know this family needs.

Rduck,
No to people cope with cancer the same way.Everyone is different in there reaction and how they handle it. The only way I remain positive through my own cancer and that of other family members..is taking it one day a time and dealing with today. Nothing more or less. Sometimes one hour is enough. I take as that and move on from there. When is been my dad, sister , grandparents and uncles. I was just there. Being present is the best gift you can give. As for the guilt you feel . My thought is this. its wasted energy. You can't changes was happening only try and help when they ask. The other thing is no matter how long a person is given. Make the best of that time. I was given three months that was almost eleven years ago. My cancer was stage 4 and its staggering thinking back ...and recalling the words ...You have three months. Doctors work on stats however there are tons of variables that come into play . Plus they don't get the final say on how long some one has. I am sorry about your Grandfather as well.
