Mom Starts R-chop next week. HELP

Hi there. I am a newbie. My mom, (Once a Chemotherapy Nurse) here in Alabama. Has been diagnosed with NHL and has a Tumor on her Kidney. Because of effecting the kidney function the doctor wants to start her on RCHOP next week. As a chemo nurse my mom has seen so many sick patients and I think is scared to death of undergoing treatments. She has not been working as a nurse for almost 10 years so the medications have changed a little. I am here looking for Support, Information, Advice, anything that you can tell me to possibly expect. What type care and attention will she need during and after treatments. What type emotional support would be best for her for us to provide. She is a very quite person that will not ask for help. I am taking her today to be fit for a wig. She is very upset about loosing her hair. I know this will be hard for her. How can I be most supportive for her during this time?
Also, what are some of the things I need to be prepared for that can happen? I am trying to do some research and need advice from those who know best. Fellow patients. :)
Is anyone else here in Alabama or use UAB???
Thanks for all your help.

" My Mom had follicular NHL. She was OK with the hairloss. I think she didn't want anyone to see her at first, we picked out a great wig that looked like her very own hair, (I had her trying different colors and we laughted together) it was itchy at times, so we got fun hats, cotton ones and when she was home, she would just wear those. She didn't want my kids to get "spooked" but we told them that she would loose her hair b/c of the meds but then it would grow back. She lost it within a month of her treatments. Just make sure she exercises even when she is feeling tired it will help her so much! Drink water, drink water, drink water!! Talk to her, about anything and everything. Even if she doesn't want to, find friends in the area going thru the same thing, maybe when she is getting treatments, it helps to talk to others that are getting thru the treatments and beating this ugly disease. It gives hope and that is so important. She won't ask for help, but going out to lunch or walking at mall. as far as her treatments are concerned, everyone reacts differently, my mom would be tired for a day or two and then would tell me to pick her up and we'd go out for a few hours. yes, she def got tired, but did not want to just lay around. She was truly amazing. Hope that helps a little. God Bless!! "

" hi angel. i just had my first chop treatment with rituxan two weeks ago.The side effects were very minimal. slight quisiness that night and jaw pain, sore throat, for about 4 days. the only other side effect i had was constipation. Actually this was the worst side effect out of all of them. Otherwise i feel back to my normal self. Today i had my head shaved, i worried so much about it and truly i think i handled it better than i thought. Wig looks pretty cute!!. I hope i helped a little. hugs. "
