I recently had my son assessed through EI CPSE and he came back with many learning issues.
They say there is a severe issue with his cognitive which I do not see as much, but I guess the tests do not lie.
I do not know if it is overall NF related or just other LD.
He is a sweet loving boy, and I cried uncontrollably tonight worried that he will never catch up.
Does anyone have children NF or not with LD that grew out of it?
I am lucky that I can get him into the special schools, but someone please advise!
I know every child is different, but any help will be good.

" When my daughter was in second grade, the school wanted to put her in special ed, then they wanted to flunk her, I fought with them, with her it was more with a discipline problem, her last six weeks she made the A honer roll. she contined that trend through the rest of school years, she would not try, then at the last moment pull it off, I think she did have a hard time concentrating if it did not intrest her, oh and by the way she had all the teachers snowballed, they thaught I was mean, when I told them No, vanessas does not have a learning problem she has a discipline problem, she is so sweet, and she is, but I would tell them, if she does not like the work she wont try, in second grade when she made the a honor roll they were shocked, cause they did not believe me, You know your child better then anyone I do not always believe in their test. can you get a second opion "

" My son had many learning "issues". He had speech problems, dyslexia, problems with math, OT problems. I have had to fight the school tooth and nail to get him LD services because he was not a discipline problem. It was not important to teachers. When the middle school did not have any "real" LD services, I pulled him out and homeschooled him for 3 years. In highschool, he has had some problems esp. with math. But the LD help has helped pull him through. We had to pay a private therapist for the OT services. He is now a senior with a solid B average and is taking some really hard classes, Brittish Lit, World History, Classic Films, etc. Please do not dispair. There is hope. There are professionals out there who can help. If you have any questions, please feel free to message me. "

" My son had learning problems because of NF but the school let him fall between the cracks because he was disable enough. So by 7th grade he was flunking so I pull him out and put him in a private christian school. he tested at 4th grade level but by the end of his first year he almost caught up. He was never at grade level but after a year more he will graduate in June with A's and B's.The public school sucked. So I just tell Joey that he has problems but if he put he's mind to it he can do it. He wanted to be a Navy seal but military will not take ppl with NF. So now he wants to get into wildlife management and computer gaming. You need to have a school support you and him not a public school who has no money for the ones who needs it. My friend I've known through the internet for 4 years just move in with me. She has NF and so does her grandson who she takes care of. He grandson just turn 13 and he started the school my son goes to today. We talk to the principal yesterday and she knows the problems Alex has so maybe he will have a good day today. Hope this helps only you know what your child can do and him to. Let him know that its ok to have problems but he still can do what ever he sets he's mind to do. My son Joey got eagle in scouts and he has learning disabilities we told him not to let it stop him from doing stuff. "

" I know NF has caused me some problems with math and spelling.I dropped out of high school to get my GED at 16.I passed it without any studying and not help.Math was my worst subject, but I passed the rest with at least a 98%.I took it and shoved it in the face of those teachers that said I was to stupid to ever figure things out.
NF can cause some learning probs but they usually can be overcome by different teaching, some places like Sylvan help them learn a different way, it can help.
Hugs and prayers. "

" I noticed my oldest daughter had a LD when she was in kindergarden. It took years to get her the help she needed but as far as I know you can not grow out of a learning disabilty the purpose for special education is to teach kids with LD's better ways to make learning easier. I have a LD and I went to clooege and finished. They have programs in college that people with LD's can finish with degrees and great jobs. My son first grade teacher has a ld "
