Finally get to go home...

We evacuated from Hurricane Ike something like eight or nine days ago, and we're finally able to go home now. I'm so excited!! We finally got our electricity back on yesterday, so we're leaving soon this evening. It's a long, long drive (something like five hours or more), but that's nothing like being stuck in this little hotel room for over a week!!

I must say, though, that I'm very grateful for this little hotel because they allowed us to bring our pets here (five kitties, a dog, two rabbits, and a guinea pig), and we've had power, water, and all the things we usually take for granted. So I won't complain about it too much. We're just very happy to be going HOME because there's just no place like home!!

:)

Fortunately our home wasn't too badly damaged, so we are lucky. I hope that others that went through this horrible hurricane are well!!

Take care all!!

" So glad things went well for you!! I don't normally evacuate but for Gustov I figured I would take my mom (who's on oxygen) and my son who was sick...to Arkansas...just in case the power went out and we had issues like katrina... anyways...ended up going up there and getting stuck for several days cuz' Gustov followed us. It's definately hard to be away from home...when it's forced on you. Again, glad your damage was minimal!! "

" Natural disaster may come anytime; we need to be prepared with emergency kits materials to survive. "

" =( It's been 5 months now for me and still no home... I am so tired. I had no idea it would take this long to rebuild. But everyone is so busy though, with their own lives and problems. Now winter is coming and I have to move in with my parents and be separated from my husband.

The news made such a big deal of the hurricanes, but I haven't heard of anyone being inconvenienced for more than a few weeks with those storms. Meanwhile nobody cares about the boring old midwest and the thousands of families there who have been homeless for 5 months now. Not to minimalize your situation at all, it just sucks. "
